Prusalink won’t let me login

I have the XL on my lan per the instructions.

i used the pi address shown in the ui panel in my browser. A page comes up, then a popup dialog appears for the user name and password,

i entered both as shown in the ui panel “maker” and the long tedious password…

The dialog returns empty.

Anybody?

Let me guess your using Safari or Firefox because it's a known issue that only some browsers let you log in Google Chrome is your best bet

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

Even with google chrome I couldn't login with the initial password it had auto generated. I went into the LCD screen settings and generated a new password, and it worked fine.

Why on Earth make a web app that can’t be used by every browser?

PrusaLink works fine for me with both Firefox and Chrome.

I've used PrusaLink on Firefox and now Brave (chromium derivative). No problems at all.

Make sure you've read an understand how to log in. Search here for more information: https://help.prusa3d.com/search?s=prusalink

I got it to work with Chrome on the Mac, but not on the iPad.
I just don’t understand why a dev would make it so it won’t work with every browser. Is there a security issue with Safari?

RE:

Let's frame your question a little differently. Why would the developers spend time optimizing for browsers that only a small fraction of users use, especially when they could download another that works?

I'm guessing in their cost-benefit analysis, Safari support didn't quite cut. This is just me speculating, I have no idea what the story actually is.

Not supporting Safari is a real no-go for many Mac users. Chrome under macOS is intensely resource heavy compared to the native Safari (or Firefox, but Firefox uses the same engine as Safari). Safari also integrates in with the macOS keyChain password management system that can be used across all macOS/iOS devices and is a reason many macOS/iOS users prefer this browser.

This is anecdotal, but I've never heard of a Mac user who preferred Safari over anything else.

Also Firefox uses the Gecko engine, Safari uses Webkit. The two aren't related.

After doing some more reading, it seems Firefox is compatible with WebKit, but isn't using it as the engine.

RE:

yes.. right.. sorry.. thought I read that Firefox was moving to webkit.. but no.. However, if you are tied into Safari and KeyChain for all your password management, you really prefer to stay with that browser.. Certainly I do.. The Chrome browser on older Macs really eats up a lot of resources and can cause performance issues. I've run it across a whole whack of Macs of various vintages. There are lots of Mac users I know who certainly prefer to run Safari if possible. In the corporate world, if you have an investment in Office and Microsoft web platforms, certainly you need Chrome. But as a major browser, PrusaLink should support logins with Safari.

It's cool; I got the tingling feeling that I was confidently incorrect, which I'm always at risk of.

Yeah Safari is all I use. Having to key in the long generated password is a real pita. I would also bet that if one complies with Safari then iPadOS and iOS will also work.

My bet is Prusa simply does not have the sw resources to do this…. along with quite a bit of other things.
