Prusa XL - Ethernet Speed

Hi

What Ethernet speed should the Prusa XL have?

Fast Ethernet 100 Mbit/s
or
Gigabit Ethernet 1000 Mbit/s

Thanks for watching, Patrick

RE: Prusa XL - Ethernet Speed

I don't see them listing either hardware standard on their XL spec on the web site. An RJ45 implements ethernet on the XL Buddy board, using their own custom software. While not all ethernet features you may be used to in standard operating systems are present, you should be able to connect to any port on a router or other network device. However, the speed is severely limited by the capability of the processing speed on the Buddy board. The Wifi module is implemented by a small, inexpensive extra module and is also quite slow, by Ethernet expectations. To improve the data transfer speed, Prusa now compresses their GCode between the slicer and the printer.. It is called  Binary GCode (BGcode). Likely this is turned on by default on your slicer, but you can check (the slicer can send either regular or binary GCode). But you won't get anywhere near 100Mbit/s of data transfer speed. You can search forums here for more info on actual data rates you can expect.
