Is there any alternative to Prusa lubricant applicator set?
Is there any alternative to the Prusa lubricant applicator set (5g)? It is not easy to buy this set in China, and shipping is very expensive.
RE: Is there any alternative to Prusa lubricant applicator set?
Since 2016 I have assembled a number of printers
The lubricant in the prusa kit, is white lithium grease
(I am sorry, I do not know Chinese brands for these lubricants) (another lubricant that I have never used personally is Loctite Superlube)
I have used white lithium bicycle bearing grease in the time before the Prusa lubrication kit was available
Before that I used LM2 yellow lithium grease
at that time the nozzles were not available, so I put a small blob of grease into one end of the bearing then I took one if the matching rods and used it to begin pushing the blob of grease into the hole in the bearing, (lining the smooth rod carefully with the centre of the bearing), next I placed one finger over the other end the bearing and gently eased the smooth rod into the bearing with a sliding motion, DO NOT USE A TURNING MOTION..
As the smooth rod enters the bearing, some of the grease will make it's way into the bearing galleries within the bearing housing.
Once the rod is fully inserted in the bearing, slide the bearing along the rod to distribute the grease among the bearings
When the motion is smooth, carefully wipe any excess grease off the components with a lint free cloth or paper towel
the bearings do not need a lot of grease.
I have also had success with light machine oil... (sewing machine oil, or 3 in 1 oil)
