Happy with my new printer

Come on people. This printer is nearly 4k usd with 5 heads.

I just placed my order last week. Trying to read the forums to see what y’all are doing. Page after page of issues.

I know this isn’t the majority of us. Post some brags. Comment on what you love about it.  Let’s see some multi color flex.

Most people only come to the forums if they have issues.  The majority don't stay after they have a fix.  Those incapable of implementing a fix or unwilling to take appropriate measures make up the bulk of the complainers.  Prusa must have sold close to a million printers by now and yet there are only a few dozen complainants here at any time.

So the majority of users must belong to the group for whom the printers just work as advertised.

That's why I rarely contribute to the XL errors threads - I have no experience of them.  As long as I take care of my machine and my filaments - it just works.

Cheerio,

It's been a long time since I've picked a up. new printer.  My CR6 se.  There were so many of us posting up prints talking about how great everything was.  Though reddit organization and picture limits made it less than ideal.

But I guess you're probably right. If they wanted us to have fun they probably wouldn't have split the XL into 3 different categories.  It's all the same base printer.  Only one has been upgrading to switch tools.

I have had my XL 5 tool for 2 months now and love it. There is nothing like it.  I print a lot of ASA multicolor prints and it’s great with that.  I did build a 3rd party enclosure to do the ASA printing.  Be aware that it does need some modifications to use any enclosure.  They have specified what is needed since they came out with the Prusa enclosure.

Can we see some of your ASA multicolor prints? I want more pictures posted here. I also have a voron. I'm well aware of the need to modify parts for an enclosure.

I started with an Anet A8… had lots of fun trying to get dialled in and learning the ropes of 3D printing.

Went to a Mk3s and after getting to grips with the right “squish” never had a problem with printing PLA, PETG, wood filled, steel filled, ASA etc.

Now have an XL and that worked right off the bat.

I honestly don’t understand all the issues that I hear about on the forums. If you follow the instructions then in my experience the printers really do “just work”.

I've owned my XL2T for about 2 months.  I've had a few fails and a lot of successes.  A LOT of learning opportunities, especially with designing parts that take advantage of dual materials or colors.  Overall I'm extremely pleased with the purchase.  I'm very glad I went with the 2T when I initially considered it frivolous for my needs.

I have my 5t XL printer for almost a year now (well a year in September  ). At the first few months i had minor issues but nothing that would make me regret it. Almost a year later and i can say that im really pleased with the decision to purchase it. I'm sure the current gen of XLs are almost hassle free. The multiple toolhead option  is truly a gamechanger , especially in terms of speed and ease. Coming from an mmu approach is a huge improvement. Printing PETG with PLA supports is a huge benefit too.

RE: Happy with my new printer

I’m not sure which pic you are referring to but there was only minor stringing to clean up on the PLA black night.   I have found that ASA is easier to print with than PLA once you conquer the bed adhesion/warping.  On ASA prints the overall adhesion is great with clean  textured plate with no glue.  I do use mouse ears on sharp corners. But most of my prints don’t have sharp corners.
I have no problems with ASA as far as stringing, layer adhesion, or poor surfaces.  I have a 12v 120 mm fan sucking the gases and heat out of the enclosure and through a flex duct to the outside.  I printed a new ventilated build plate cover(from Prinables) and  I added a 40mm fan at the front bottom of the printer since I was getting build plate errors (#17255) on the front corner tiles (7 and 10) when they were not in use.  When the tiles are on there is no problem.  The bottom fan gives enough cool air to keep the underside of the build plate cool enough so I never get errors any more. The fans keep the main chamber around 42c.

RE:

Just finished adding the last three printheads to the semi-assembled Prusa XL5T I bought from Printed Solid: the last three printheads  arrived two days after the base 2H unit, so could only two two-color printing while I waited. The printer is installed in the front room in a corner next to the 8' wide fume hood (w/ 110 cfm fan venting outside) that has our two Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra resin printers.

Because the Prusa XL5T is in a corner, I built a workbench (anchored to the walls) with a 36" turntable.  The lever in the lower right corner of the photo raises an under-table platform with a 12" lazy susan bearing (1000 lb rating) so the 36" wood round can rotate freely.  This has been incredibly useful for assembling the printer.

First print was a tray for holding my spouse's paints that are used on the D&D figures the Elegoo resin printers produce.  Took 8 hours and came out perfect. 🙂

Probably get the Prusa XL enclosure for Christmas and some filament dryers so I can print TPU, ASA, and the like.

We only got in to 3D printing a few weeks ago, but we are really enjoying it.  This XL5T is a replacement for the 600 sq. ft. woodshop I used to have in my back yard, it gives me the same ability to design and create but using much less floor space and for much less investment (the Delta Unisaw I used to own costs only a little less than this printer, and it was only one of the big tools in the wood shop.)
