Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
So a few weeks ago I decided to install the new 5.1 for the Input Shaper and it seems that this might have been a bad idea? I am now getting odd fan errors, the nozzle sensor no longer works for my #2 head and I am getting crashes which has never happened. I just tried to preheat a nozzle on my #1 head and a huge warning came up and the screen turned red with the QR Code and when I pushed the nob the entire ship stopped and crashed. This isn't what I would call a warm fuzzy feeling.
Is anyone else experiencing any issues like this? I am aware of a few folks that have also had the fan speed errors but I haven't seen anyone else complaining about the crashes etc??
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
I am running a XL-2H with 5.1 for more than 2 weeks and have seen no issues.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
I actually flashed the new 5.1 firmware the instant mine arrived before I even did the initial setup. I did have to run through the initial fan calibration twice but other than that I have not had any other random error messages other than the physical issue I'm having with dock five being slightly out of alignment. It's been 3 weeks now and I have not had any issues so far from an error message perspective, although I've had quite a few issues from a level print bed perspective.

I've had quite a few issues from a level print bed perspective.
What do you see when you have this issue? I have had a few times where the nozzle seems to contact the print?
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
I posted some feedback in this thread: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/perfect-first-layer-issues/paged/2/#post-692368
I also have a link to a torture test pattern I put on Printables 2-3 posts from the bottom of that page. The torture test is a tight grid pattern that really shows the flaws more than printing a flat sheet since it shows the interaction between lots of perimeters and infill across the whole back of the bed. I also have a file on that test pattern that places 3 grids, covering the whole bed. I'd be curious to see what your run of that one looks like.

I'll chime in on this on with my experiences...
As soon as 5.1 came out I flashed my 2 tool head printer, it ran well for a while, then the issues started, I had the screen black out completely which at the time I didn't think to much of as it as I clicked the knob and the screen came back on, it then was missing part of the images on screen, then the USB would disconnect from the machine part ways through the print.
As it was a long print, I stopped it and returned a week later to no screen at all, it illuminated, but was blacked out.
Contacted support about this issue, and they shipped out a new XLCD.
Once it arrived, I fitted it up the new one, it work intermittently on and off but would not recognise the USB stick, back to Prusa chat again and was told to reformat the USB to FAT32, which it was, I tried this over a couple of USB drives I had with but it kept coming up with red screen errors of invalid firmware etc etc
After an hour or more of turning off the machine, turning on, resetting the machine and forcing it to read the USB, it eventually did read and loaded firmware.
Then it failed to read again, back to support emails and was asked to make sure the USB drive was FAT32..... YES!!
A new XLCD display and ribbon cable was sent out again....
3rd XLCD arrived with new ribbon cable just prior to Christmas, same scenario as above, fitted up and took forever to get it to read the USB drive, by then new firmware 5.1.2 had came out which I flashed to the printer... it worked.... or so I thought
I was happy with it reading multiple USB once inserted into the XLCD Ove rand over, I turned the machine off and had Christmas.
come New Years day I started the printer, recalibrated again and was ready to print a quick single colour print...
Preheat, loaded filament, press go and was greeted with a new blue screen then nothing..back to blacked out and a non functioning printer.
ANOTHER email back to support saying how I feel.... its getting returned, so now I need to re box this thing back up... Happy!

They should have offered to send you a fully assembled unit.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
Wow I am sorry your having that issue. The 2nd pic with the orange screen I have had and as soon as that came up the system crashed.
I am a little concerned with the responses from Prusa. Can you tell me what has worked best for you? I tried the online chat with them and I was on hold for an hour with 6 min remaining displayed the entire time.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
The puppy error one makes me think maybe the extruder board and not the lcd panel. but I'm not sure. I got my unit fully assembled so to avoid any issues I might have introduced by building it.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
Thanks ssill2. That could possibly make sense since I am now having filament sensor errors on the 2nd head. I have been running this for a few months and have had no issues except the stringing stuff but other than that its gone ok. I waited to download this new software to avoid issues but now it seems as if something has been introduced. If I could get Prusa to respond I could get an idea of what is happening.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
The filament sensors are a whole other story. I took the springs and bearings out of mine and turned them off since when printing tpu they introduce WAY too much drag. I've been happy with new firmware and slicer, but I also do not run the input shaper profiles. I just put the .4 nozzles in last night and printed a benchy so all good there. Honestly the machine is so complex and to me having folks assemble there own seems like a complete support nightmare for prusa lol I'll tear mine down the next time there's a major upgrade. I purchased my two MK4s as MK3S fully assembled, and then did the upgrade to MK4, which was nearly a complete teardown and assembly. That was a good exercise and I expect I'll do similar when the next hardware upgrade to XL happens, but until then, I'm sure glad I bought it assembled.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
apparently once returned they will repair it, but I will push for a replacement unit.
Prior to this it ran well, I didn't have near the bad experiences as some users, but I did swap it out to .4 nozzles on arrival, the Nozzles were purchased prior to its arrival.
This was a factory assembled unit as I didn't want to build it, as I don't have enough spare time 😆
@Rufus, There have been many different error screens, I have had the machine Crash and reboot multiple times, the above images are a just a small portion.
first contact was prusa chat, 2nd contact prusa chat again, after that I received a reply email from a Doug to which I keep replying to now.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
Hello,
So i had some of the errors described by you, for me the fix was kinda a easy, the cable was not properly inserted on the montherboard in the back...
Yes, i thought i checked beforehand, yes i talked to support and they send out a new display etc.
But when they arrived the new display didnt change anything and i thought i will connect the wires directly in the back before pulling out all the cable management and then i saw it...
the back connected was not connecting for maybe <1mm... pushed it in... tadaaaa
Sorry if that is going to help you, but it really is worth a try and some of the symptoms you showed here i saw as well...
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
My XL was a factory assembled unit, and had been working quite well up until the firmware updates..
Ive removed and pushed in the cables to boards and screens more than I want to do on a new machine, doesn't matter what way or what I try it won't work..
Its all boxed up ready to go back to Prusa... Now I play the waiting game
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
yup same crashes i have seen..
the firmware is very ALPHA still regardless of what github or prusa says.
basically prusa had 3 years to work on the XL, and they put out a very early ALPHA machine that used the public as guinea pigs, because former Chinese knock offs are now surpassing them.

RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
Former-Chinese? Isn't bambu labs still a chinese company? I do agree that the botched XL release has tarnished prusa for me. I also have a factory assembled machine and I'm glad I did. I think I would have had a lot more issues. However, the built in profiles don't feel tested, and the fact that PVA isn't even an option in the filament load menu when it is a stock profile(PVA and BVOH) in the profile leaves me wondering, what testing was done with this stuff. If you can slice with a stock profile that includes pva or bvoh, why can't you also, at filament load time, pick PVA or BVOH as an option? How did that get through testing?
I'm sure prusa will make this right in the end and I'm very happy with my two MK4s that were previously MK3S+. I'm glad prusa has some competition now but I'm not sure I trust bambu. I like being able to pull the source for the firmware and for the slicer if I so choose to see what's going on in there. I think prusa needs to use this as a learning opportunity. Are they going to please everyone? No. I'm hoping with the XLs or XL+ or whatever the next minor rev ends up being that prusa really listens to us.

I also have a factory assembled machine and I'm glad I did.
I have the "partially assembled" model and I'm glad I bought that one instead of a fully assembled version. I'm far more careful and far better at building things than some minimum wage refugee at the factory. My machine, once upgraded to the latest firmware, and the factory built-in defects corrected, is quite stable now. I ran a big job using IS yesterday and waited for it to break but it printed beautifully, better than without IS. I used "structural" and it was still about half the time.
I think Prusa's weak spot is support. Their chat support is nothing but a system to try and get rid of people by blaming them but the email support seems better.
RE: Anyone having new 5.1 software issues?? PRUSA??
I'm less confident in my abilities than you are 🙂 I did manage to do the MK3->MK4 upgrade without any issues, and it was nearly a total teardown. It was enlightening and did give me real insight into the parts that need to be checked for maint, etc.
I look forward to doing similar thing when the next hardware rev of the XL comes out. But my hope was to reduce/eliminate any issues I might have induced on my first exposure to the machine.
Next prusa machine I get I may go ahead and build it from kit though. The instructions are generally pretty good and I'm careful to read everything a few times.
