Ordered a 2 head semi on day one (18.11.2021 13:18 GMT+1, Order 1637237890) and got the question to finalize on 15.08.2023. Waited to switch to the 5 head semi until 17.09.2023 and paid the same day. Added some stuff and since over a week the order status is now "In Progress". So hopefully it will ship soon!
For all the "reviews" and problem posts, most of them use the presliced g-code for prusament, which prints with 215°C quite hot...Also for the number of XLs which hopefully have been shipped it seems like a standard amount of "problematic" units and you only post on the internet if you have problems to get views & likes 😉
But if anyone in front of me like to cancel, please go on 😀
And if I get a "problematic" unit I'll ask the folks during formnext for some help / extra gummibears 🤣

That’s an ‘assembled’ machine which means if there’s an issue has it come from factory assembly and what’s the QC like?

Yes I tend to agree. preorder from 11/18/2021 that I'm waiting on is also a fully assembled 5 extruder version. Which is why I'm particularly interested in this. But there was clearly SOME assembly involved. Perhaps something happened during shipping? I hope to know here in a few weeks lol

the QC is (compared to some years ago) none existant...
my mk4 kit hat some wrong parts that i had to fix myself (like a pe cable that was 10cm short).
I assembled my XL 5 semi yesterday....
and at the end you find a filament sensor (assembled from factory) with missing parts. the fitting that catch the ptfe tube are missing on one side. so i have to deactivate the filament sensor to get the thing working.
contacted chat (30min waiting). and they want to have more pictures and so on. you have to discuss 30min and the last reaction "ok no problem i understand will see about sending you this replacement "
so service was also better 5 years ago...
And i have to say - i would not buy the assembled one. the semi assembled was build in unter 3h. the mk4 took me 3 times as long.
when i see how much work the "assembled" is, just take the semi

Nice update and good to see there was at least some acknowledgement of human error in assembly. Frankly, I don't see the stringing issue being solved with out some serious work- mainly because the physical set up. Two things, one is the 0.6 nozzle, and the other is the placement of the print and the purge tower so far apart.
0.6 is going to string. The further you drag that nozzle from part to part doesn't help.

Faster speeds also helps reduce stringing so maybe IS will help.

I really appreciate these videos & your clear explanations. What I'm going to say might sound critical, but I mean it to be encouraging and instructive. I'm an engineer with lots of experience in material processing, & I use a lot of rigor when trying to diagnose & debug problems. Part of that is controlling all the variables that you can & questioning assumptions & data sources. You've done a good job of using the same filament on different printers on the same Benchy model, & then reversing the main & accent colors on the XL - so I think you've sufficiently demonstrated that there's something going on with the XL that's causing excess stringing. I'm just not convinced yet that you've eliminated humidity as a contributing factor. I worked on some projects where humidity was considered a contamination in parts-per-million, so I hope you'll tolerate my geeking-out over it for a bit.
You state that you keep your space at 30% RH. That should be low enough for open storage on PLA filament that is already dry. But where is that 30% measurement coming from? If it's from a meter on a dehumidifier, those are notoriously inaccurate. Even if they were properly calibrated at the factory, the meters drift significantly over time. So I'm not doubting your reading - just the reliability of the source. I live in a area where the RH is typically +80% in the summer. I run 2 dehumidifiers in the basement where my printers are located, & I can barely keep RH at 40% at that time. I noticed the meters on the dehumidifiers were not in agreement; part of that could be that they're at opposite corners of the room, but they're not even close most of the time. I used a couple cheap stand-alone temp & humidity meters, & they also weren't in agreement with each other or the dehumidifiers. The disagreement was as much as 30%. I got a couple calibrated recording meters, & those were within 5% of each other. They showed that what I thought was 40% RH was probably actually closer to 50%.
I store my open filament in dry-boxes with desiccant, & those maintain at around 25% as measured by the calibrated meters. 25-30% should be enough to maintain filament that is already dry. I also use a food dehydrator to dry my filament when necessary. A food dehydrator or filament dryer should be able to get RH below 10%, which is low enough to draw out the moisture trapped in filament. It's no the heat that dries the filament - it's the low humidity. But it's heat that takes high-humidity air & turns it into low-humidity air. Then you pass that warm-dry air over the filament to dry it. I could go into the physics, but lets save that for another day.
Next is the assumption that newly opened filament is dry: that's not always the case. I won't go into how it might have got damp - but there have been several studies showing that it often is. If it's damp already in the package, 30% RH or higher is not going to be low enough to dry it.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!

I've received my 5h semi yesterday. Ive been complaining about Prusas approach in this and i still believe they handle it awfly bad. It took a while to assemble. This torque wrench and wiring is PITA and for the first hour i was keep getting preheat errors on one of the toolheads even after the printer passed all the tests. At some point though it corrected itself (i hope is not a dry joint on the dwarf board) and i was quite happy with the results. I printed just with two colours. The black is the included galaxy black pla and the red a brand new "real". I used 5 degrees bellow the generic profile for the real. 0.6 with 0.20 lh. Its indeed a complex machine with verrrrryyy tight fitting of components and parts that i really wizh i will never have to take apart to troubleshoot. All in all if it doesnt start random errors i thing is a great machine (for the time being). The way you set your wifi is a bit outdated though.

When you get it, check all parts... QC is not what it used to be.
there are parts missing in my filament sensor - and after 2 chats (30min waiting each, and 6 pictures and discusions) they will send me a spare part.
Problem: it seems like they don't have enough. And i could take a while to get it.
Time to send spare is Prusa: "soon"... we know what that means.
have to fix it myself.

8/31/23 Received email to finalize my order, "Your PRUSA XL preorder is almost ready....... Please make the supplementary payment." Asked Prusa CS if I could convert to 5 head semiassembled, was told in a week or two. (so i waited)
9/14/23 Got tired of waiting, went ahead and finalized my order for a 2 head semi assembled. Submitted payment. Charges for 2 head semi assempled hit credit card that day.
9/19/23 Noticed I could convert my order to a 5 head semi - assembled. Converted my order and submitted additonal payment. Additional charges hit credit card the next day.
9/21/23. Received notification that the XL smooth PEI print sheet was back in stock. Added it to my order
10/2/23: Received notification from Prusa and DHL of tracking number assigned, and Prusa says my order has been packed.
10/6/23 Recevied notification to pay import duty to DHL, paid online via credit card $157.14
10/7/23 DHL delivered 3 boxes to my house
