RE: XL dual tool - print fan self test fails on both extruders

I'm going to try this before I start loosening/removing shrouds.

Flashing the newest firmware 4.7.2 did the trick for me (or maybe it was extreme luck on the slot machine as I tried it about 15 times, switched FW and it worked).

so after reflashing firmware and about 15 runs of the fan calibration, it worked! lol   totally a software problem.  I was all ready to start loosening and removing shrouds too.

if you have to redo the test 15 times it doesn't seems to be a software-problem for me. Software is stupid simple. There must be an issue with hardware. As suggested earlier, my guess is, it's a burr somewhere.

I guess I'll have to start disassembling the fan shrouds as well.

disappointing, i can not deny.
ordering, having to wait TWO years for your printer, assembling with attention to details ... and it fails ate the FIRST test. 🙁 🙁

RE: XL dual tool - print fan self test fails on both extruders

I had an issue with one of my fans. All the others passed after a couple/few tests. I was getting one tick at the top, but a red cross almost immediately in the test cycle for that fan. The fans that were ok, but needed a few tests, failed later in the test cycle.

Swapped the extruders around and the issue followed the extruder. Took the fan shroud off and found the fan was spinning but producing no airflow. Prusa sent me a new fan—on dismantling I found they had screwed through the fan wire, so worth checking this too. Replaced the fan, and they all passed a lucky first time.

The other issue I found on assembly (so caught it early) was one or two of the fan shrouds were completely blocked with stringing. Easy to remove but easy to miss if you’re not looking for it so do check this as well.

Interesting, I'll have to check my extruders then.  that would make a lot of sense if they had pinched the wires.

i just wonder, ... I disassembled the fan shrouds and could not find any interfering burrs ... maybe it's just the fan not being totally loose yet... bearing too greasy ...?

Can you feel airflow when the test spins the fans up?

RE: XL dual tool - print fan self test fails on both extruders

so I just reran the fan calibration, and it of course failed, several times.  I think noticed that 1 and 5 seemed to be failing on the part fan consistently.   visually they spin up just as they should.    I went I had and unscrewed part fan and shroud and put inspected.  no issues.  they were tightened pretty good though, so when I put back on I I finger tightened them.  Ran the calibration again and bingo.  I noticed everything on the factory assembled side were very tight, including the idlers etc.   I had to mess with idler tension a bit when trying to print tpu the first time.

Interesting, admittedly I've not rerun the fan calibration since I installed. 6.0.0.   Now I'm not going to.

RE:

I went back to v5 firmware, still had a fail.. weird. Took the fan off the head, removed shroud and tested.  All 5 fans passed. Careful assembly, re-test problem gone. Could not get away from FUSB302B blue screen error in firmware v6.0.0. Apparently it should be addressed in firmware v6.0.xx

RE: XL dual tool - print fan self test fails on both extruders

Good morning, yesterday I updated the firmware version to 6. When I did the fan test, as you can see I got an error, as you can see in the photo.

I have solved the problem in a much simpler way. Look at the fan on the right (the one that fails) and possibly some dust has accumulated. Therefore, it does not reach the RPM of the test.

In my case, I have an air compressor, I put a nozzle on it to clean dust and clean the fan using pressurized air. (If you don't have a compressor, you can buy a can of compressed air at computer stores to clean computer components).

So, after cleaning the fan on the left mainly (and the one on the right). When the test was repeated again, the test was passed. 😎

XL dual tool- print fan self test fails on both extruders.

Has PRUSA arrived at a definite solution for this persistent problem?

I have had identical problems with printer fans test failure on both tools .  I have removed the shrouds of both printer fans.  This transiently worked on tool 2 but not tool 1.  Tool 2 would only pass intermittently with multiple tries.  Tool 1 never passed testing.

All fans are spinning and blowing air, run quiet and have unobstructed air flow.

I've tried compressed air to blow out  printer fans and checked for burrs.  Nothing seems to help.  Firmware version is 6.0.0.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

PRUSA Chat frustrating.  They want videos of all tools including  the fans and tool hot ends, videos of the complete self test.

I have difficulty attaching videos to Email but have enclosed photos. of tools and test result.  Not sure of any additional info in video.
