Transient issues and now won't boot up.
I'm pulling my hair out. After getting the kit built and everything calibrated and checked printed a couple of good single filament test prints, all fine. Then printed a few two extruder prints and all sorts of transient issues started. Screen would flicker. It would call for a filament change in the middle of a job which chat support thought was a filament sensor issue. I've cleaned and calibrated the filament sensors three times, swapped heads, been told they wouldn't have done what the last support tech told me, updated to latest firmware, recalibrated all axis, sent pictures of the buddy boards, shut off all filament sensors, rechecked cable connections on heads and boards, etc. Have given up on chats. We are fairly remote and our internet is prone to dropouts. I wait 30 minutes to get someone, explain everything, check, test, whatever and discover they are gone. Wait another 30 minutes and get someone with different ideas and start over, again and again. Now sent two messages as the transient issues emerge and of course still awaiting the first response. Now the screen is in permanent crazy mode. When it worked it did a beautiful job with TPU and PLA supports. I did great with PETG with PLA supports. Now it's not doing anything. This is a link to a video of it. If this was a hobby I could be more patient perhaps but I'm losing days of time when I should be building prosthetics chasing my tail. Any ideas? Returning this from Guatemala is impossibly expensive.
RE: Transient issues and now won't boot up.
I've realised my XL doesn't like higher ambient temperatures, even here in the UK!
Try active cooling of the main electronics enclosure on the back. There are multiple designs for covers with fans on, on printables.
This is the one I'm about to try: https://www.printables.com/model/859870-improved-prusa-xl-buddy-cover
There are many of reports of similar issue with heat build up, like this: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/713787/
RE: Transient issues and now won't boot up.
With mine, as soon as the screen starts playing up, I now know I have to just walk away from it for an hour+, to let it cool down before trying to turn it back on.
RE: Transient issues and now won't boot up.
Thanks for the reply. It had become impossible to do much of anything, even booting up sometimes worked but mostly resulted in a crazy screen. When it did the filament sensors acted up. Turning them off didn't solve anything. The printer just did random errors and crazy behavior. The printer wasn't even getting a chance to get hot. I already have the extra cooling mod running on the processor just in case. Gave up on chat supports, often lost them and the next one had different ideas and wanted me to ignore the previous and try something else. Went the email route and waited several days and got someone who gave me a list to try, checking and reinstalling ribbon cable, sensor cables, etc. lastly he wanted to try a special hard reset different from the normal factory reset. On power up you press the control several times as soon as bootloader is done. Printer didn't respond, acted erratic. So, I already had latest firmware on but decided to try a factory reset instead and recalibration. yesterday. After doing all the recalibration even the sensors behaved. Since then it's run a single extruder and two extruder print flawlessly. Hoping this continues.
