New XL owner

I ordered the partially assembled XL 5 tool that is due to arrive today. Does anyone have any advice or pointer on assembly?  I have been printing about 5 years now and built or assembled about 6 printers so I'm not a virgin, but this is my first Prusa.

Thanks for your help!

Just follow the assembly manual and have an eye on the comments if there are any.

RE: New XL owner

I ordered the XL in February of this year and I received it in May. Unfortunately, due to other things that I had going on, I was not able to start assembly until mid August. This was my first 3D printer, so it was all a learning process. The online guides were very good, and Prusa was good about making updates to it based on user feedback. DEFINATELY, read the comments for all of the steps. There is a lot of good information and feedback in there. I enjoyed the assembly process and found it very valuable. I don't think I will buy an assembled printer if they have a kit version available.

Based on the news that was just released, I am going to get the new Core One kit, rather than the MK4S kit I was going to order. Thank goodness I was waiting on the Black Friday Sale information. I just wish I didn't have to wait until April for the kit version.

RE:

Assembling our XL 5T took less time than assembling the MK4S we acquired to go with it recently.
(The XL has  0.4 and 0.6 HF nozzles so we're running an 0.25 the MK4S, as an in-between detail-wise to our Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra.)

We learned more assembling the MK4S, but that said,
I'm glad we didn't have to assemble all 5 Nextruders on the XL.

Good chance we'll pick up a Core One kit early next year, but I'm leaning away from upgrading the MK4S to it, just because it seems likely to be a lot of work to tear down the MK4S before rebuilding it into a Core One.  Not sure where to put another printer, but we'll figure it out.

This is too late for Timmmy, however for those who come after.  When I assembled my XL, the bench top I have is mostly smooth.  The XL has rubber feet/pads that are in each corner.  During assembly there's more than one time that you need to rotate the whole machine to gain access to the back or opposing side.  I used small sheets of plastic to reduce the friction of these rubber pads.  They act like those furniture pads that go under couches, making the whole thing move much easier.  I thought I saw someone post that they were going to mount their XL on a large cabinet lazy susan, this is the cheap version of that.  Just something I found helpful in my build.

RE:

For those who read this topic, here are the issues I have encountered while assembling the 2T version:

- the way the screen cables are shown in the assembly guides is not tight enough if you don't want to be too short when the cables arrive at the board ;

- the way the cables should be positioned when dealing with the bottom corner is unclear ;

- it wasn't clear if my screen case was molded or printed so I used the M3x10 screws instead of the M3x16 so my screen detached itself from the printer (without harm happily) ;

- there was no link to the "first run" chapter in the French language/2T assembly guide ;

- the "first run" tutorial states that if you want to set the silicone socks you should do it before going further. The problem is that because of course this is the first run the printer proposes you to run the calibration procedures immediately instead of parking the toolheads and propose you to insert the sockets. So there's some inconsistency here. My advice : read the chapter thoroughfully before proceeding with the procedures, set the sockets afterwards and re-run calibrations.

- some messages in the calibration procedures in French language are not displayed correctly - the last words of some sentences are missing, so use the English version instead.

RE: New XL owner

have the online manual handy.

dunno if it has been addressed in the current manual, but you may want to read about the updated Dwarf cable mount and Dwarf cover.
