Toolhead crashing when using Sequential Printing AND Spool Join

Just had my printer crashing when using Sequential Printing AND Spool Join (crashing when changing toolhead). Adding a photo under. Probably something that should be addressed?

Looks like you have a part blocking the gantry from changing tools.

Good afternoon,
Could you please report this via Prusa XL Github,

I suspect the second or later part was lower than the first part, when spool join was initiated, and the printer didn't raise far enough to clear the initial part...
regards Joan

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility.Location Halifax UK

The printer is not smart enough to do this.  I think the user has to change the order of their parts to print from front to back.

Any tool changes when doing sequential printing is dangerous unless the user completely understands all the movements that are going to occur.  There are lots of opportunity for crashes.

Obviously! The solution would be that the bed would be lowered below the tallest object BEFORE trying to change tools. Should be an easy line of code…

It's not a smart system, and the tutorials on the Prusa help pages state that.  It relies on the user to make sure it'll work, especially when the parts are taller than the gantry clearance.

This is no different in my mind than a CNC machine.  If you tell it to do something that'll crash the tool, it crashes the tool.

I get what your suggesting, and I've already suggested it in GitHub probably 6 months ago.  In my particular case the part changed tools at the beginning of the print.  So the tool head made it back to the park position, but while the new head was heating back up the bed raised the already completed part into the way of the new tool head when it tried to start the next part.  Without knowing exactly what path the tool head will take to and from the dock it's a gamble.

I made your same suggestion, but even then it would have to be smart.  What if your part height didn't allow the bed to lower enough to get out of the way?  Then it would still crash.

There has been no movement on it and I doubt it is a priority as there are very few use cases for using this feature, and the common user won't use it.  Mainly more advanced users, and those people are likely to implement their own fixes

You can add custom g code to do what you want under the tool change section in your slicer, or wait for Prusa, but like I said I already suggested about a 6 months ago.
