How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
I have a model with a flat bottom base. I would like to print this flat bottom directly on the build plate. This model also has some overhanging parts so I also need supports for those areas. My problem is that once I enable Supports in PrusaSlicer (2.0.0+) it automatically lifts the flat base of my model and places supports between it and the build plate. I tried setting "Object Elevation" to zero but this is not an allowed value when using supports.

try Slic3r 1.42.0Beta1
the option was removed because we don't need it!
we should suspend the model in free space... Not my preference!...

RE: How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
Thank you Joan. I tried Slic3r 1.42.0Beta1 but could not find any setting that allowed me to place the model directly on the build plate while also using supports. The problem I'm trying to solve is that some models detach from their supports before the print is complete. I've tried adding more supports but that makes a lot of extra post-processing work and does not always fix the problem. I'm going to try slicing with thicker support attachment points.

That is not correct. The feature was disabled because it was only half baked. The upcoming PrusaSlicer 2.1 will implement this feature correctly.

Hi James,
I just tried reloading that version, and the functionality didn't work for me, this time, (It used to work, but doesn't now,) as BubvnikV corrected me,
"The feature was disabled because it was only half baked. The upcoming PrusaSlicer 2.1 will implement this feature correctly."
a feature that I will look forward to, when it arrives.
@BubvnikV do you have any idea when Prusa Slicer 2.1 will be released? .
regards Joan

The 2.1 alpha will be released in the following weeks. It is planned for the end of the next week if everything goes well.

Sounds good - I too miss this feature a lot! Would make splitting items in 2 and printing them with split line on platform for later glueing much better!
RE: How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
I'm assuming you've since downloaded 2.0.1-alpha1? It has this option. It was surprising to me that Prusa Slicer removed this feature since I almost always use it on my anycubic photon. The "around object" pad still seems like a workaround to me, but it works for what you want.
RE: How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
This feature is in Prusa Slicer 2.1.0
Alpha release is available

Doing this same crap again in 2.5.2. Cannot use supports if building from the build plate. What the heck guys.
RE: How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
Please provide a 3mf project file, either here or by creating a separate issue at https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer
Normally, you should be able to have supports and print directly on the print bed. If not, that is clearly a bug.
Check if your support points are at sane positions on the model, so that they can be routed properly to the bed or onto the model. Sometimes the automatic support point generation does a poor job.
RE: How to print with Zero "Object Elevation" from the build plate and still use supports?
I don't have your STL,
But this one has supports around the model at zero elevation
this works in prusa slicer 2.5.2 and 2.6.0 beta2

Uploaded. But the only place I have supports is between the gap in the top and bottom of the opening about 2/3 of the way up the part. If I let it place it in the air, instead of zero it slices fine... except that it is in the air and will never print.

Just realized you wanted the project not the object. See attached.
