RE: Initial impressions

Does your bed make a different sound when it tilts back? Mine does, don't know if this is normal

Yes - has low deep humming too. It must be the mechanics and motor working against the springs one way and with springs on the way up.

One hour left of printing and I can see the model is still hanging on to the platform.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Great, mine also, will see if it gets warped.

Last time I used dry and cure in CW1, I think I will now only cure as it seems that drying also warps the object

Success on second attempt:

There is some blank spots the rest of the model is mate. Is that right?
[Did manual wash in IPA (10 min) and curing under nail lamp (2x 10 min) - Plan on build a curing chamber with UV LEDs]

Pretty!  So there are spikes on top as well.  I'll have to try again when I get home.

Did you do anything different this time? I need to slice my own so I can start bringing in a million other variables to obsess about!

9 minutes into attempt 2.  Still clicking.

Two notes while I'm killing time...

1) Read the manual on how to deal with failed prints.  I didn't, so I just carefully plucked my failed calibration print out with gloves.  I actually bumped it and it tipped over, then I used pliers to pick it up out of the goop.  Reading the manual, you are supposed to be very careful removing that stuck print.  It's been baked on, and removing it can damage the FEP.  You are supposed do drain/clean all the goop out, remove the tank, then carefully push up from below to loosen/release the print.  (Read the manual, don't listen to me).  Just be aware you should be careful.  I don't believe I damaged my FEP at all, but that appears to be luck.

2) I've heard people talk about a grinding or other loud sound as their tilt platform operates.  I don't hear it at all, so I thought I'd post a video of what I do hear:

IMG_0564

(it doesn't appear to be embedding the video snippet, I'll see if I can find a way around that)

Hm, I don't hear anything on your audio, I tried to record mine but it seems frequency is lower and it does not get recorded, it's not grinding sound, it's some kind of vibration sound when it tilts up.

I don't hear anything louder than the fan, except the 'click' I think is the print releasing (this is still an early layer).  I'm wondering if there is something vibrating.  The tank tilt is mechanically quite simple: one stepper motor moving slowly a partial turn, pulling down one lever.  I don't think it should cause significant grinding or vibration.

RE: Initial impressions

I will disassemble it tomorrow to see what is causing the tilt up sound.

At first I was nervous about this: UV light exposure.  Then I realized the tilt bed operates during calibration.  It made me think, though: I didn’t notice a “is the cover in place” safety mechanism that disables the UV if the bottom cover is off...  Don’t blind yourself.

I did a deep clean of the build platform with IPA on paper followed by a bath in hot water and soap. That seems to do the trick.
I suspect there could be oil residue from machining on the platform and that would make adhesion bad. Third print went well too.

What do you mean?

After wash and curing the surface isn't blank, except where the model has been in contact with FEP or build platform. Is this normal or am I washing to long?
(Not owning a CW1, I do manual wash and cure)

You mean it isn't glossy? It is normal, but I think you are washing too long, my CW1 washes for 3.5min and cures for 3.5min so try the same

Yes it is not glossy (kind of expected that). I will lower the times on the next print and see if it makes any difference.

I use long curing time as my UV-nail curer is a low power cheap Chinese model with one UV tube.

I disassembled the front cover and this vibration noise is connected to tilt motor and the frequency it generates that it somehow in frequency of the other parts, for example if I remove CW1 from the same table vibration noise is considerably lower.

If it helps, I posted a video for another thread (difficulty with tilt-speed check) that will let you see the motion and hear the sound I get:

Yoda, and my first mod (a wrench holder).

I replaced one of the case screws with an m3x8mm round head screw and it has plenty of hole depth to grip a 2mm thick plate.  Put the 3mm allen wrench on it, as it's the one tool I need *all* the time.

One of the arms of the wrench holder broke off.  Not as strong/flexible as PETG on my mk3, a bit more fragile.  I'll tweak the model or just print it sideways on my mk3.

It's the same, you also have that humming sound when it tilts back, but for me it seems it gets louder cause it's frequency is tied to the things on the table.
