For some reason, I can't edit my post. Don't put any new firmware on your Mk3S+ as you are on the latest version. 6.4.0 is not compatible with the Mk3S+.

There is only one firmware file for the MMU3 - version 3.0.3. It doesn't matter which printer firmware file you grab it from so just unzip the version 6.4.0 file and flash the 3.0.3 firmware file to the MMU3.

does anyone know if there is a major issue with running newer firmware on a older printer.

have a mk3s+ with the newest firmware for it
mmu firmware current is 6.4.0 (3.0.3) , but mmu mk3s+ is 3.14.1
