RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?

My shipping estimate for the MMU3 upgrade for the MK4 now shows end of April to first part of May 2024 shipping.

That is pretty much saying ‘never’.  Do we know what the issue is with the MK4 version? I have to say that after going 15rounds with my Mk3/MMu2, that the difficulty in getting filament to load into the Nextruder really surprised me.  I thought with that big gear/feeder, that the filament would load more easily, but I found that it seems that the filament doesn’t want to engage on the teeth.  Is that the issue?  Or do we know.

There is a blog here somewhere detailing all the problems and attempted fixes. Firmware and hardware are both involved.

Design it, Print it!

You mean the blog entry from October where they promised to keep everyone updated about the progress?

Yes. It answers the OP's question about the problems Maybe you didn't comprehend?

I had four different systems on back order from Prusa. I ended up having to make a spreadsheet of my product, my order number, when the promised update was, when the promised ship date was, and when an update was going to be due. I got tired of doing that, so I just canceled three out of the four.

keeping track of all that stuff became too much of a pita.

RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?

I'm frustrated.

I purchased the original mk2 and loved it through the upgrade cycle until the mk3 launched. Then I purchased the mk3 and followed it through the upgrade cycle. I loved the Mk3, especially the S+ upgrades. So, when the MK4 came out I naturally went straight for it. But other than the load cell (which is indeed nice) I haven't seen the same quality jump I expected from the other two, nor the same "prusa quality" I'd come to expect. Part cooling was wanting, input shaper doesn't allow me to calibrate for additional parts (because you can't run it on your own), and I had so many clogs with the nextruder nozzles (especially the expensive obxidian nozzle, which I found was undersized) I eventually just bought the V6 adapter and went back to the old nozzles. The one big thing I'd been waiting for was the MMU3, which I was excited about getting my hands on back in September, October, November... ???

Now my work has purchased the new A1 and an X1C and I've gotten to try out a bit of Bambu's ecosystem, and there are so many obvious things they're doing that I'm feeling like a chump for sticking with prusa. Input shaper? Let's just embed a $0.25 sensor into the machine and run it every time. Noisy? Let's test the individual machine's steppers to ensure they're running at the best frequency. Purge block killing printable area? Let's just purge to the side. Multi Material jamming in the nozzle/bowden? Can't have jams if you never pull it out of the nozzle. Cable management issues? Let's just have a single cable run from the controller to the breakout board. That doesn't even begin to mention the fact that the X1C with the AMS is a much more compact system than the Mk3s and the MMU2, which felt like it spilled all over my workspace (and the MMU3 doesn't appear to be any better). There are so many things that make objectively more sense on the Bambu machines that I'm wondering why I paid $800 ($1400 when you count all the accessories / MMU3 costs) for a machine that feels functionally inferior to the $600 Bambu sitting next to it.

I'm not a huge fan of Bambu as a business, but printing with Bambu's printers has made me love 3D printing again, in the same way my MK3 did before. Printing at work is fun, but printing at home with a Mk4 now feels like a chore. I am maybe a month away from throwing in the towel at this point. If I don't get some update with a solid timeline soon, I'm going to have to switch. I figure with a refund of my MMU and the sale of my Mk4, I can just about afford an X1c for my home. I just want a machine that makes me excited about 3D printing, and for some reason I've lost that with Prusa. I hate that I'm feeling this way, but that's where I am.

Apologies for venting. I'm just incredibly unhappy right now and posting in the hopes that someone at Prusa is listening.

I figure now that I've found my round-2-it, and started building my MK4, the MMU3 should ship as soon as I put the MK4 in its LACK table.... (eg: the next two weeks.)

<sigh>  😛

Unfortunately, this email will only reach the support team and they don't care about it. There should be a way to contact Joseph Prusa directly.

I can completely understand Adam N. Webber.I have been having problems with my printer for 7 months. It vibrates when printing and I always get the same standard answers. Grease the bearings, put a damping mat under the printer or the best answer: We can't detect any unusual noises.Nobody is able to help me and printing with the MK4 is no longer any fun at all. I've already written to the support team about this several times, but nobody is interested. I'm really close to selling my MK4 with enclosure and canceling the MMU3.

 Probably very true. [email protected]

I had a bit of a chuckle just now when I saw the following on the Prusa website.  I've been wishing Prusa would SHARE more information, as promised, about this thing but... I guess I can put two and two together after seeing what the company thinks sharing means:

As Joan said, this forum is mainly for the community and Prusa members rarely read here. Afaik the mk4 mmu has now finished beta test and they have just begun finalizing the product, so it shouldn't take too long anymore.

Hello, thanks for the information. Where can you track to know that they have completed the beta phase?

RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?

I cancelled my MMU3 order last week, will shelve my multi-color printing plans for now. Which is funny considering that I ordered the MMU3 for my MK3 in July, and then realized I may run into issues since my MK3 was modified quite a bit. I then changed my order to MK4+MMU3 and then split the order once the MMU3 was delayed. I received the MK4 and sold my MK3 so now I’m basically back to square 1 with a great printer that only prints a single color at a time 😀

Very sorry. I ordered the MK4 as soon as possible and promised my MK3 to a friend, as soon the MMU3 update for the MK4 is there. Meanwhile I have changed the MMU3-MK4 to the MMU3-MK3. Having now 2 printer (which I wanted to avoid). One with perfect multicolor where speed is in low priority and one for good and fast single color printing. Still waiting for the MMU3-MK4 to get rid of one of my printer.

In my case, I will cancel the preorder of my MMU3 for MK4, sell my MK4 and buy an XL. Multi-material printing is much more efficient and time-saving with the XL and I don't waste 60% of the print on waste.
