RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?

I have the feeling that they are not at all interested in bringing out the MMU3 for MK4 in the foreseeable future. We as customers are just being kept on a long leash with excuses.

I watched the video from the show and saw the MMU3 running on the MK4. I’m, like many of you, are waiting to see it run on my MK4. I trust that Prusa has a team working nonstop on making that happen.

However, am I the only one put off seeing Mikolas and Josef’s seemingly cavalier attitude towards the situation?

I'm starting to have exactly the same opinion. It would be best for Josef to stop hanging around all kinds of fairs and start doing something. The talk about how they try to make everything super perfect was enough in my opinion. I don't understand why they won't release MM3 for MK4 even with some imperfections, with everything being refined and perfected. A lot of people wouldn't mind MMU3 not being able to do several thousand material swaps without error. A community of loyalists would certainly contribute to the development of MMU3 for MK4 as well. Because it seems that the problems are not so much on the HW side, but rather on the FW side. For example, I wouldn't mind if the MMU3 and its FW cuts off the remaining filament as a precaution after pulling out the filament. The development can continue and those who want a perfect product will have to wait for Josef to deliver it to him absolutely perfect. It could also happen to Josef that the community will turn away from him, because he is no longer alone and number one on the market. Please note that this is just my personal opinion on the matter, others may not agree with me.

Josef Prusa is working for new customers and I doubt that he could really help solving the technical problems. So far so good. But he should also take care on present customers who deposited their money and wayting a very long time. He should give us the joice to take as it is shown at the show or wait for the final product. I would take it and would spend my voicher for this.

What you're describing is what they did with the MMU2. I don't remember that going down so well.

The dev diary blog post says "We will keep you updated both with the good news and shipping being ready, but also in the case of ongoing troubleshooting and further development."

We're still waiting. Not expecting daily updates, but perhaps once per month?

Interesting that in the MMU3 setup in the video from the show, it appears a filament buffer is not in use.

Yes, in the video the buffer is not in use.

Also...

I hope Prusa do adress the state of the MMU3 soon.Bambu plans to release the A1(not mini) with multicolor and by the leaks its seems to be similar size as the Mk4(wild guess at the moment).

Josef will post an article confirming that they have no updates yet? Feels like MMU3 isn't really a priority.

Got the same response from the support:

"Unfortunately the MMU3 is still under testing. Our devs team want to make sure, that the MMU3 will be perfectly working with all MK3.9 and Mk4. At this moment there is no further estimate on start of production."

But isn’t it a lot more expensive than MMU3?

at the SMRRF event in Oxford, there was limited space, and they ran without the buffer.
the buffer was available to view, for interested parties.
I have never used the official buffer, again, because of space constraints

I Currently have MMU1 working on a Mk2, and I upgraded my Mk3 to MMU3 and that was a good improvement on the MMU2

I have a Mosaic Palette2S Pro,
it works OK. but I didn't get good results from Canvas. (Canvas is  theMosaic slicer)

Porting Prusa slicer values to Palette, helped a little. but I  got best results from P2PP (Palette 2 Post Processor) which used Prusa slicer to slice the  model, and then post processed the Gcode, to replace prusa colour change commands with Palette commands

It's a while since I used the Palette, due to work constraints.

I Believe Mosaic may have ported Canvas to use the Prusa slicer engine, which may have improved things.

Please remember that Palette is proprietory hardware, so if you need spares, they have to come from Mosaic.

Have you considered The Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder (ERCF). The Carrot Feeder allows you to use a high number of different filaments (tested up to 9 channels so far) and feed them, one at a time, into the printer toolhead

I believe this is open source.

You can get the P3P to work with the MK4 but it isn't perfect.   There are similar communication issues with the P3P as with using Octoprint with the MK4.   This shows up  as some issues with getting smart load to work correctly and occasionally the printer just stops in mid print.  Most of the time you can get the P3P to restart the print.   You do have to use P2PP to slice the models for it.  The P3P firmware hasn't been updated in a while  now and doesn't include built in profile settings for the MK4.   It is a waiting game to see if the P3P firmware and P2PP catch up with the MK4 and fully support it.   You might be trading on kind of a wait for another by buying the P3P now.

I am using the P3P with a Prusa Mini+ and getting good results with it.

ERCF looks interesting. I also found this 12-color MMU version: https://github.com/cjbaar/prusa-mmu-12x

RE: Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4) - Shipping soon?

Seems like it's super difficult for some reason to get the MMU3 working with MK4. I'm thinking of cancelling my order and possibly order it again at a later date, once it has been released and the first problems have been discovered and addressed.
