RE: MMU3 printable parts R4 (F1)

hello, sorry but this is a bit confusing

i have MK3S+, with MMU2S

i am planning to print this to upgrade to MMU3, but there are several things that is not mention here (maybe i skipped reading somewhere)

1. if i print all of the printable part for MMU3, can i use old MMU2S electronics? i read somewhere that the only difference is the mainboard (include in the upgrade package is PD Addon board + power/data cable*)

2. current printer MK3S+, can i use R4 for the MMU3 unit? if cannot, why? is it because frame dimension?

3. if so, then i need to print all parts with R3 only, no mix matched!

i think that is all i'm confused about, i don't want to spend hours printing and wasting filament to found out that it will not fit for my current printer, thank you in advance

There is an upgrade kit that includes all of the non-printable parts needed for the upgrade. I highly recommend sticking with that rather than trying your own solution.

R4 will work the same for mounting the MMU3 unit to the printer as R3. There is no need to mix and match, just print all R4. I highly recommend printing them in PETG. Any time you stray from what is intended, you are adding one more thing that can go wrong, as I have discovered.

thanks for the info,

i do want to buy upgrade kit, but i am not too invested in multicolor print right now. hence asking if the electronic can be salvaged

forgive my ignorance, but why giving me separate files between mk3 and mk4, if it's an updated design, i think it's better to leave it at R4 if the design is better.

i read the post again slowly this time as i was getting to understand

R4 parts - added support for MK4 and MK3.9, more information on the Prusa Forum

R3 parts - initial release for MK3S+ and MK3.5

Conclusion for MMU unit: For the existing MK3S+ and MK3.5 setups there is no need to update the parts. The only thing to consider is printing the updated Ele-cover with PD-board-cover. Owners of the MK4/MK3.9 should print the R4 revisions. However, if you have pre-printed the R3 parts, print the R4 versions of the Ele-cover and PD-board-cover.

i guess the pd board is on different size?

i do hope that MMU3 have better physical design that are helpful with the tool changes, but as of now, i still run FW 3.11.0, MMU2S did have different behaviour compared to previous FW, but sometimes, it can still overshoot the retraction and/or chimney not detected

for now, i will print the R4 files

The PD-board-cover didn't exist when the R3 version was released, it's a new part, released in the R4 release. In R3, the PD board wasn't covered.

RE:

after reading a few times from MMU3 UltiMulti Printable Parts

now i notice about the PD board

MMU2S data cable can be modified to provide a more refined 5V voltage level to the electronics board's logic (as is explained in this video by Chris Riley). A stable 5V supply is crucial! Ideally, the MMU3 cable and PD-board addon are the best option available.

once i saw the video of Chris Riley, and he mention the PD board and the "adjustment", i have visual representative of what is going on.

of course buying an upgrade kit is recommended, but at least that answer 1 of my question

1. if i print all of the printable part for MMU3, can i use old MMU2S electronics?

answer is mostly YES, MMU3 kit is more likely and add-ons, rather that replacement, so i can use most of the hardware and electronics from MMU2S to MMU3

i am thankful for @jeremiah-moss and @firetech for replying to my questions and giving me some insight about this.

re-reading first post from @jakub-dolezal now makes sense and i can more or less have a better understanding of what is going on.

RE: MMU3 printable parts R4 (F1)

Just received my MMU2 to MMU3 for MK4 Upgrade Kit. There are two spools of PETG included. I downloaded all the printable files for the MK4 (5 Files with many parts). Is there anything to consider using the PETG? I'm just confused that there are two spools and so many parts (sets an seperate parts).
