MK3S+ upgrade to MMU3 first or MK3.5 first

I currently have the MK3S+ and the MMU3 upgrade kit.  I've built the components of the MMU3, but haven't torn down my printer yet to integrate the MMU3 components.  I'm wondering if it's better to upgrade to the MK3.5 first, then add the MMU3, or to upgrade the MMU3 fully, then upgrade to the MKS3.5.  Does anyone have an opinion or thoughts about which is more efficient/desirable?  To be honest, I haven't competed the MMU3 upgrade yet cause I'm a little nervous about tearing open the printhead and having a non-working printer.  Not to mention I haven't come up with a good solution for mounting the 5 filament spools either...

I have been using Air Buffers for years...

on
MMU1,
MMU2,
MMU2S
MMU3 and Palette 2S Pro

This happens to be a mk3.9 but the same setup worked on my mk3 I just don't have pictures handy

MMU1 still in service, Haven'tused it since.... Last night...

Hopefully this diagram will help.

Note the MK3.5 upgrade will require a different cable between the printer and MMU3 because of the main board change.

Joan - I was thinking of doing something similar.  Do you have a pic of the spool holder you're using?  I'm thinking about cutting rectangles in wood, which would hold each individual spool with its own axel (so I could swap spools individually).  How much height is between your spools and top of the MMU3?  Real estate is at a premium on my small work bench, so thinking about going directly above the printer (your's looks like it might be on a shelf).  Any thoughts, comments?

Hi Glenn

I am using Prusa MMU1 spool holders for the MMU1, and Prusa MMU2 spool holders for the MMU2... BUT I have added larger diameter rollers on the 8MM shafts, to reduce friction. rollers are about 25mm diameter, with a raised section at each end, to stop the spools falling off the rollers.  there is not a lot of space above the printer,
Yes, there is a shelf above the printer which is just wide enough for one spool holder, front to back, and  Nine spools along the shelf. four for the MMU1, and five for the MMU3

In a temporary location I Suspended the five spools of filament on a broom handle and that worked too  🙂 It was better with the filament coming off the bottom of the spools than the top of the spools,
when the filament came off the top of the spools there was more liklhood of the filament spilling over the edge of the spool and causing problems
