Loud grinding noise
Is anyone else experiencing a loud grinding noise when their MMU3 starts up? I'm running the latest firmware for the MMU3 and the MK4. But I had the same noise with the last versions of firmware.
RE: Loud grinding noise
I have that noise too. It's difficult to say whether it should be "normal" or if something is wrong. However, printing with the MMU3 seems to be ok for now.
RE: Loud grinding noise
I have the same question and cannot find an answer in this database.
RE: Loud grinding noise
Apparently, judging by other comments here, it is harmless and does not impact the function of the MMU3, but I would still like to have a solution for this, since it is quite annoying.
RE: Loud grinding noise
Agreed.
RE: Loud grinding noise
Same noise here. It's happening when the idler turns. My guess would be that at least one of the bearings rattles on its shaft.

If we keep adding to this post, will someone from Prusa answer this question? Or if anyone knows that answer, please post it.
I just bought mine. No grinding noise the first few times I turned it on. Now, after finishing my first successful colorful print and sitting overnight, the grinding just started when I turned it on. It's awful! I bought the MMU3 factory assembled so it should be good. I have a Core One.
RE: Loud grinding noise
I get a knocking sound when the Idler resets at start up. (there is a silicone bumper which is supposed to reduce the ferocity of this knocking.
A friend has a DIY MMU3, without the bump stop, and hers works too, just a little louder
the Selector also drives to the left and right ends of the travel, and bumps the ends to set up...
But not grinding
Does anyone have a Video they can share?

RE: Loud grinding noise
Okay! So, I turned it on this morning and the awful awful clicking and grinding noise continued. The sound and the way it looks, seems like the idler motor is trying to spin past what it can and it's skipping or grinding its gears. I recorded it but don't know how to post it. HOWEVER, this time it said that Idler was unable to home, which it had been able to do previously. I looked it up and it basically said that this was a mechanical issue and there might be something stuck inside or the motors were put in incorrectly. I bought this assembled so I really didn't think it could be a mechanical issue and when I opened things up a little, there was nothing that looked like it would cause an obstruction. So I just factory reset the MMU3, re-"Flashed" the firmware, and then turned it off and on again. No sound or error! I don't know exactly what was going on but so far so good as I have turned in on and off twice.
RE: Loud grinding noise
Isn't it just calibration, the steppers running into the stops to establish a reference point? Yes, it sounds like the printer is trying to eat itself but you get used to it...
The calibration does not happen if the FINDA detects filament (LED off) at power-on as this would shear off the filament.
