Limited space for MMU3 - will this work?
As you can see from the below - I have limited space. I print only as a hobbyist - nothing to sell etc, so all very casual. Once I have completed a print I put my filament spool (just use PLA) back into its airtight bag for storage until the next use.
I'd like to tinker with multicolour so a considering a MMU3 - my issue is therefore obviously space.
I'm thinking of installing a shelf on the wall above the printer. I will place the 5 spools on the shelf complete in air the tight cereal box setups so that i don't have to worry about sealing them up after every use and can just leave them in place permanently.
My plan was to then to print a bracket so that I can place the coil/buffer cassette thing under the shelf. Would this work - can the buffer be placed horizontally instead or vertical?
That way the filament would feed from the spool on the shelf, round to the buffer thats under the shelf, then directly down to the MMU3 thats underneath. The filament runs should be quite short, although leaving a curve each time of course so that filament can easily flow.
Would this work?

RE: Limited space for MMU3 - will this work?
Yup, I currently have mine mounted upside down under a shelf and it works fine. Trying to get rid of it with spool rewinders but all the ones I have tried are not great
RE:
New plan - now Im thinking I can use the cupboard thats beneath the printer.
Inside the cupboard is a single shelf - I'll create an opening at the back of the cupboard for the filament to exit and go up to the printer.
My plan is to then line the inside with perspex sheets and silicone them together to create a makeshift chamber for all filament spools to live in. The rear will have the exit for the 5 PTFE tubes that will go straight up to the MMU3 on top of the printer. Hopefully this way I can throw some desiccant packs inside and try to keep the filament in good condition (mainly just PLA).
Considering whether I will have space to leave the actual buffer unit inside as well.......
