MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Hi,
after bootup and during rotation operation when the Idler turns, there is a very loud Ratteling. At which place could i check to mitigate this issue. It seems multiple People have this Problem, as ther is also a Thread on the Subreddit - my Idler Sounds exactly as this.
As opposed to this Video, where it is almost Silent.
It's hard to pin the Location of the Rattle - but maybe you have some ideas.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
I just finished my MMU2S to MMU3 upgrade for my Mk4 and I have the exact sound.
Being an upgrade kit, I reused the same motors from my MMU2S.
The MMU3 seems to be working fine, but the sound is annoying.
I haven't checked the build yet, but am normally very careful so I'd be surprised if it was an assembly issue.
I might try and discuss with Prusa support when the wait times aren't as long as they were earlier this evening.

I've got the exact same issue, works flawlessly but I have that rattle noise. I have completely disassembled and reassembled the unit and the noise is still there.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
The exact same issue here. The unit works flawlessly, but each time the idler spins to change the position - loud rattle/creaking/buzzing. Kinda bearing-like.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Same here - any news on this?
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
I have exactly the same condition but it is working perfectly.

I have the same Issue (mine is a 2nd Day Order unit) when its spinning the Idler it sounds like something is gonna break, scratch or whatever broken. Crazy noise doesnt sound healthy at all.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Guys, I found the rattle on mine completely by accident. My lane 5 was refusing to load any filament so I took the whole thing down and noted the idler was a bit tilted and loose on that end - the little rod that was supposed to hold it in the bearing fell inside the idler so it was rattling around inside. I didn't manage to get it out, but thankfully I had a spare. So you might want to check if anything actually came loose inside the idler.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Good catch, thank you for sharing! I will check mine tomorrow.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Is it the 5x16 shaft in this step?
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
That's the one!
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Unfortunately that wasn't it. I disassembled my MMU3 and everything seemed to be assembled correctly. With the idler disconnected, the motor still produces what I think are unusually strong vibrations. When assembled, they of course resonate in the idler. The question that remains is, why is the motor vibrating that much? Is something wrong with the motor or can it be fixed in the MMU3 firmware?
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Sorry it didn't work. I actually fished that thing out today and it rattled like a toy - and that was the only way I could get it out - shaking the you-know-what out of it. You never know, maybe someone else will find a 5x16 shaft missing so my experience will help. 🙂

RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Just finished the MMU3 assembly (MK3.5) and started the first print; the idler makes the exact same rattling noise as in the video. It prints fine and filament changes are happening as they should, but the noise is annoying.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
So after a few prints, this noise has gone down drastically, basically being non-existent for me, don't know if something just settled in the idler or what happened, but its gone.

I can confirm this - the same thing happened with my MMU3 👍
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Not in my case. Still rattling as much as it did before. I've been printing a lot, almost 10.000 changes currently, and no difference in sound.
Surprisingly enough, moving the idler manually doesn't produce any sound. It's just when the motor moves it. I've opened it up, cleaned it, moved it around etc and it didn't help.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
Same issue here. Loud rattling when idler spins. Prusa support not much help.
RE: MMU3 MK4 - Idler very noisy / ratteling
I feel like a remix of the idler with some protrusions around the pin openings to pinch the bearing in place when the bearing is inserted would snug things up... similar to the contact a bearing spacer makes in a skateboard wheel. This would center the bearing snugly. Hrm...

Give this a go? Remixed the original R4 version of the idler to add .5mm spacers to the design to secure the bearings in place.
