Join spool function leaves a huge mark

Hi,

I've been using the join spool function but it leaves a huge and ugly mark after the spool change, making the spool join useless.

I'm using the same filament in both spools (Prusament PETG).

What's the solution for this problem?

In the black box picture, the mark is clearly seen at mid high:

In the yellow disk part, the print order is from left/back to front/right. The marks started to disappear only after several moves front/back, leaving a mark of about 3 cm wide, as can be seen in the picture:

The solution is very simple: If you are printing a part where appearance matters, make sure that you do not need the spooljoin function, i.e. have a sufficient supply of filament on the spool. Even at the cost of starting to print from a new spool and keeping the old one for printing smaller parts or parts that don't matter so much about appearance. Remember that any interruption in the flow of the print will always affect the appearance and you can't do anything about it.

Spool join is no different than any other filament change.  If you're getting these kinds of issues, watch the printer while it's doing the change - maybe it's not purging enough?  Is there a partial clog?  Are you using a wipe tower?  If not, you'd have to purge into infill or something or it won't properly prime the nozzle after feeding the new filament.

There are a few other threads on the same issue, do a search and you'll find them.  It seems to be a bug with the new firmware.  It was working fine for those people and only started having similar issues after the firmware upgrade.

Yes, that is an obvious turnaround but if that is the only solution, maybe there was no reason for the spool join to exist in the first place.

I would say that it's purging enough, at least it the same settings that I always use with all the printings. And no clog.

In the back box, I had some what letters at the bottom, so yes, I was using a wipe tower. In the yellow box, no wipe tower, since it was all printed with the same filament color.

But I don't see any special setting to use after a spool joint function. Is there any?

Thank you, I will search for it, and see if it's the same thing and firmware that I'm using.

Spool join generally works well, although any interruption will leave at least a small mark.  But I have seen instances where the tail end of filament is tucked into a hole in the spool and causes some extra drag, and a significant extrusion gap, as it comes out.  If I anticipate a spool change, I can usually straighten out the end ahead of time.  Then it works fine.

Thanks for the input. In my case I think the tail end of the filament is not the problem. The printing continues fine even after all the remaining filament is almost at the MMU3. The print marks only start after the filament change.
