how much tight are your idler screws ?

I bought the MMU2S long time ago, then after months of troubleshooting and disappointment I put in the closet !

Then I bought the MMU3 upgrade kit and I am back to disappointment.

I thought Prusa 'Research' will have something more easier, more 'pro' with this upgrade, BUT NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried a test print with all 5 colors, FAIL 10 times, I got all kind of issue with the idler, superpinda ....

How tight is your idler screws ? Mine are 20mm from top of ecover to bottom of screw socket.

I think your idler screws are too tight.  See the two screen captures I took from the MMU3 assembly manual…

RE:

If your idler screws are that far below the surface, I believe that can have the effect of also dragging through the filament from the unselected spools whenever the idler loads the filament from the selected spool.  This will cause the selector to collide with the excess filament that's poking out the next time it tries to move.

In my limited experience, getting these idler screws right is a key part of setting up the MMU3 properly.  The description in the assembly manual gets you pretty close.

The Finda is also critical - I had some false 'filament out' errors until I adjusted that down far enough, but if you go too far you'll get false 'filament not unloaded' errors.

Not sure how I managed to “double post” my comment above.  Maybe some nice moderator will swoop in and remove one…

Good info, Chris.  I have read so many folks complaining about how the MMU2 and 3 are not good, but what it seems like, more times than not, is strict adherence to assembly (online manual, because the comments are time & tool savers!), adjustment & calibration.
And then, after it is installed…

Test, calibration, test, re-adjustment, test, re-calibration, test, re-test…

and then…

WOOHOO!
