quick electrical disconnect for MMU2
Has anyone seen a quick electrical disconnect mod for the MMU2. I have to clean it frequently and would rather not remove the entire printer from the enclosure.
RE: quick electrical disconnect for MMU2
I remember someone posted a modified mmu2 cover with a regular switch on it. He was cutting all ground wires which did work but wasn't really good/safe solution.

I cut the wires near the printer and put a connector on both ends. I only plug or unplug when the power is off.
I used an 8 position Molex Micro-Fit connector as they are compact and I had access to the "magic" $275 crimping tool.
Without access to the specialized tool, the best bet is to use "standard .062" connectors. You will still need a crimping tool, but it is inexpensive. They do not make an 8 position connector. But, there is a 9 pin version. The advantage of this path is that you do not need soldering equipment (or skills).
Remove the cloth overwrap from the MMU to printer cable bundle.
Pick any one of the existing wires between the printer and MMU and cut it several inches above the point it exits the printer's controller enclosure. Strip back the insulation from both cut ends (connector instructions will tell you the correct length to strip).
Crimp an open/hollow pin onto the wire from the printer and one of the "pointy" pins on the wire from the MMU. Insert the wire from the printer into any location on the back of the "printer" connector (see next attached picture) and push it until it clicks in and cannot be removed.
The two connectors have alignment keys (circled in purple) and only fit together in one orientation. It is a good idea to mate the two connectors after inserting the first wire in the printer connector so you can be certain of the corresponding location on the MMU connector.
Once you have identified the correct location, insert the wire from the MMU into that location on the back of the "MMU connector". Press it in until it clicks and cannot be pulled out.
Repeat this process for the other seven wires.
Cut the cloth overlap into two pieces sized to cover the two cables and then cover the two cable bundles.
DO NOT USE THE "POINTY PINS" OR MORE OPEN "MMU" CONNECTOR ON THE PRINTER!!
These wires/pins are always energized by the printer, even when the MMU is not connected. The "printer" connector provides physical pin-to-pin isolation and protects against shorts. The "MMU" connector does not. Using the "MMU" connector on the printer would create a fire hazard.

Amazing! Thank you.

Used the 9 pin connector as well. Works great also makes it easy to take off the mmu and mod.
thanks for the tip.

That was probably me, but I know I'm not the only one who is done that.
It looks like the poster in this thread wants to physically remove the MMU as opposed to just disabling it, so I did not chime in.

@jsw
Whatever works :). It's better to have something somehow working instead of having no solution at all.

does someone have the section of the 8 mmu cables?
