RE: IKEA obsessing? Isn't a glued/screwed acrylic using less plastic and paper?
So first as much as I want to hate on the Lack - and what a name, let's just take a moment and reflect on that design choice - if it gets people printing and helps them with having an functional and/or aesthetic enclosure, more power to them.
What other materials would you use to base a model around that are:
1- cheap
2- readily available across the globe
3- easy to use/ modify

I'll start - PVC or other material plastic water supply/ drain pipe.

<rofl>. Hitting the nail on the head (no nails in any LACK, though 🙂 )
I enjoy being part of the "Maker" community doing 3D printing, but I'm sure my father would shake his head at a bunch of technically adept people placing their finely tuned $1,000+ devices on wobbly benches. Always a frustrated woodworker, he could surely spend an afternoon in the garage and crank out a solid bench using spare lumber and hand tools that would last forever. I only wish I'd learned more from him!
