Using MMU2 with alternative filament spool holders
A question for those who have had a chance to play with the MMU2 already:
The MMU2 comes with its own spool holders. I assume this is to help manage the large amount of slack that's created when unloading a filament.
In my setup, I have spools mounted on hangars about 1M above the printer. I'd like to keep using this arrangement, as it saves table space and has proven very easy to manage lots of different filaments feeding into my three printers and Palette. There's plenty of room for a lot of slack without anything tangling.
Is there anything special about the MMU2 spool holders that I need to be aware of, or is it really just about giving the filament a place to go when it unloads?
Re: Using MMU2 with alternative filament spool holders
Lack of desk space means I plan to mount the spools above on the wall too, so I am very interested in this query.
Re: Using MMU2 with alternative filament spool holders
You will need to get MMU2 working in stock configuration before your attempt to mod.
Once you have it working, it's up to you how you break it 😉

Does the official MMU2 spool holder work with Colorfabb's big > 2,2 kg spools ?

No. But you can always rewind it onto smaller spools. That way the rest of the filament won't soak up as much moisture.
