...used the new board without any errors so far...

...but...

If I follow the posts and schematics on the github-thread, and if that information is true, it is REALLY an embarassing error by design...

Following the thoughts from there, why would you need a protection for reversed-polarity in our application? I'm seriously entertaining the thought of bridging that diode...

Got to break out my multimeter and do some measurements... 😉

Let me know if you want a guinea pig - I'll happily try it on my old board.  Would just need details on what Diode to bridge.

RE:

Hey Sneaks, I absolutely had the same idea of using my old board. Unfortunately the idea just came to mind after I did put out the trash... I you look at the board, the D1 is easily visible. Testing at your own risk though... 😉

So far, I can report that I had no errors so far. Together with the update on the PTFE-connection, I am a happy camper again! Now if only I can get a hold of someone's profiles that claims to have success in printing PVA...

I also posted in this thread here:

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mmu2s-mmu2-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/i-found-serious-design-error-in-mmu2-electronics-hardware/paged/2/#post-567643

Maybe one of thos pro's can break out an oscilloscope to check whether that diode is really needed. Would be cool to know before we find out by bricking our guinea-pigs...

Thanks Daniel!  What is this "PTFE-connection" you speak of?  I think I must have missed that?

Sneaks, just to be clear, this is not an official update - though it should be...

That's the 'original', might want to check the remakes if you need different threads for the fittings...

This is AWESOME!  Printing now and just ordered PTFE and fittings - Thanks for showing me this!

Lowering CURRENT_RUNNING_NORMAL and CURRENT_RUNNING_NORMAL in the firmware helped some, but only after I also lowered CURRENT_HOMING have I been able to avoid the dreaded "all LED blinking problem" for a week now, my current values:

#define CURRENT_RUNNING_STEALTH {30, 30, 30}
#define CURRENT_RUNNING_NORMAL {30, 30, 30}
#define CURRENT_HOMING {1, 30, 30}

Note that in my case the MMU worked fine for more than  a year before this problem showed up, none of the other suggestions helped (cleaning,checking all connectors, etc). Not sure what actually triggered this issue?

I'm running the Zero beast FW on two of my MMU2S and it's a big improvement in reliability. I haven't had the dreaded flashing red and green since.

I had never heard of that, for some reason, so I checked it out on GitHub.  I may actually try it.   (This is after I just wrote in another thread that I tend to avoid upgrading unless there is a specific reason to do so.)  😉

Give it a try, I'm going to run it on my third MMU2S as well. I didn't as I wanted to compare and it was running fine until recently when I've started with the red/green. Seems to have come on after the recent hot weather we had in the UK

Can you post me in the right direction of the firmware? I find several on GitHub but it is not really clear with one is the correct one...Thanks so much!

That's the one. Update printer and MMU2S using the precompiled files.

So how much actually needs to be done?

I was hoping to simply be able to flash the MMU2S for what appears to be a no-brainer upgrade without having to do the printer, let alone print and install plastic parts.

You can just flash the FW for both and you should be good to go. The other mods are just meant as quality of life improvements. I've installed the mods on one printer but not the other (Although that also has some mods but they're not necessary).

Is it absolutely necessary to flash the printer as well?

The firmware I have been running for some time is great and produces excellent prints and I have avoided 'upgrading' it to avoid one of those 'improvements' that has issues.

Not sure, sorry. There's changes in the MMU fw that provide prompts on the LCD to aid load/unload issues. So maybe you just lose those? These's also some little changes that I wish Prusa would implement. You can always flash back to previous FW if necessary.

Did you try this firmware? Interested to know what you think if you did

Check out the FINDA. All lights may mean that the sensor is seeing something that's not there.

Stay safe and healthy, Phil

RE: MMU2S keeps resetting/Red & Green LED's flashing at once.

I'm experiencing exactly this issue. In my search/analysis I've noted the following:

All Sensors are o.k. after boot up.
In this status the MMU2S is booted up but has not positioned the head (this is normal).

As soon as I, as an example, want to position the MMU Head to a filament in the instant the movement starts the FINDA (Sensor) gets to "N/V" and is not going back to "0 / zero" again. Now even resetting the MMU doesn't help anymore. Sometimes it gets to FINDA (Zero) but again, as soon as the head moves FINDA N/V is the result.

It has always the same behaviour independently if the positioning is made manually or by Octoprint.
