MMU2: Spool placement for single filament use?
I ordered my MMU back in Jan 18. Apparently mine has finally shipped, and I'll be able to play with it next week. After reading the requirements for space behind the unit, I nearly cancelled last week. I really don't have a lot of use for multi-material at the moment, so I'm wondering if it requires so much space at the rear if I only plan to feed a single filament through it?
The MMUv2 description makes it sound like it can be removed easily, so this may not be a big deal. I'd like to get it working but don't want to reconfigure my work space. Is it a big deal to swap the MMUv2 on and off?

Not really; it's just the cabling to the Einsy that's a but of a pain, but fairly easy to unplug at the MMU end.
The Festo on the extruder will simply unscrew and the MMU unclips.

Using the MMU in single filament mode is simple, and since it's not unloading and loading filament all the time it's not a big deal where you put the spools.
If you really want to disable the MMU, as I understand it, you just unplug the signal cable from the MK3 to the MMU, and the MK3 will go back to non-MMU mode. You then remove the feed tube from the MMU to the extruder and use it just like any old MK3.
