Where are all the MMU 2.0 Reviews on YouTube

I have been watching YouTube and have not seen any reviews from the people have lots of viewers, Sanders, MakersMuse, 3D Printer Nerd, etc. I have seen other reviews of the MMU 2.0 with mixed results. Mostly bad and some hopeful that there will be eventual fixes to the issues. Did Prusa screw the pooch on this and release a bad product that cannot work or did they release a product with some issues with the hope of fixing after release? I work on new product development and my stance is always it is cheaper/better to fix the issues before launch than after launch but sadly it seems that is not always the case.
What do you think. Where are the reviews for this product. This was Prusa's big product release for 2018 as well as the SLA printer.
Also do yo think the MMU 2.0 is fixable or do you think it is hopless. Mine is on back order until December 10ish.
Thanks

I can't speak to Prusa's marketing strategy, but the MMU definitely works if you have the patience to learn how to use it.

But it is not for people who want to plug it in and go. This is varsity-level printing. And so it might not be suitable for quick-hit YouTube reviews.

3D by definition is not plug n play right now for the majority of people. I may never be. In my view it is still a home niche market for hobbiests and tinkers. I work on New Product development and 3D printing does feel like NPD to me.
I was just expecting a lot more YouTube videos on the MMU 2.0 by now and just not seeing much and when I do it is with mixed results. People are tinkering around the edges for best results right now.
One of the reasons I but a Prusa is it seems they have a large group of users who are helpful in troubleshooting.
Ok Thanks for the response.

The the bigger 3d printing channels have a lot interest to balance. 3d printer manufacturers, viewers, YouTube algorithms, other endorsements and single user donation sources like Patreon. The big Youtubers dont want to offend Prusa or the Prusa army with an "honest" review. So they've made the choice to put out NO review. An honest review would totally trash the MMU2.
It fails at just printing reliably.
The firmware needs a lot of work and there are quality control issues with hobbed gears. The cutter is part of the design but not implemented. Not to mention MK2.5 owners had no firmware or cable to even use their mmu2 at launch. The forum is filled with people having issues, so the experience is likely the same for Youtubers (who dont like to put out failure video).
All of these problems make for a horrible out of the box experience. It puts reviewers in a tough spot, they arent truly independent. They depend on companys to send review units. They dont want to offend viewers and patroens who love Prusa, most of which will not have personal experience with the mmu2 or believe how bad the mmu2 really is. So if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all...........

My other two cents
Prusa seems inclined to blame filament manufacturers for not producing consistent filament, or their customers who are building a basically plastic kit which relies on very tight tolerances to work correctly rather then having their design being robust enough to handle all filament and varying degrees of user skill, which the mk3 handles nicely. To those who say there is no good consumer level multi material solution on the market that works great or you'll have to tweak it to get it working etc. I'll say you are correct. But the mmu2 was never marketed that way. They didnt market it as almost complete or needs work. They never marketed it as "for advanced users only" like Lulzbot does with some their products. So customers are blind sided and become beta testers. All I saw before purchase was wonderful multi color prints with no mention of a 5 to 1 failure rate.

Prusa MK3 preassembled (R2/B6) > (R3/B/7)
Prusa MK2.5 kit > MK3 > MK3+MMU2 (R3/B/7) 😀

Re: Where are all the MMU 2.0 Reviews on YouTube

You are right about the bad reviews, I was intimidated by them too, to such a degree that I left my MMU 2 untouched for a week or so. I am not a beta tester, my "first release" for the MMU was 1.01.

Having seen the negative news, I want to comment that from my personal experience the (or at least my) MMU2 was a success. There are indeed points that need careful attention and proper alignment, it _is_ critical for that. Whether it was luck with the tolerances of my model or indeed the fixes of the newest firmware, I do not know, but it worked for me out-of-the-built, I printed a 16 hours 3 d model with three colors, as first print, not even one of the pre-sliced models on SD.

I've done 3 major prints over the last days (one like over 20 hours per print) and no missed layers or other errors. With my MMU 1 the failure rate felt much higher. I wanted this message also in "the air"as people tend to document when things are not working, but remain mostly silent when things do.

Keep my fingers crossed, but I am a fan of the MMU 2 sofar. 🙂

There are not that many pictures of successful MMU2 prints here; any chance you can post some please? I am sure that would then give others some hope!

I am happy that I cancelled my order. I did not see a good volume of positive information flowing and what scared me the most was comments of ruining the basic single color print when adding the MMU2 and having a printer that was messed up for any printing. I am also happy to sit here and watch and see it mature and hopefully get back in the game when it is more polished and predictable. I want this capability bad, just not at this stress level.

You have to remember that there have been many thousands of MMU2 unit shipped and that there are only a very few users both here and on social media complaining of failures. I would guess that the complaints are in the low hundreds (but of course, there's no real way of knowing).

For me the biggest question is why users are not posting success pictures.

I whole-heartedly agree with Khalil....
I had a bad taste in my mouth for weeks after purchasing the Mk3 early....now this "unit". I will say that my last two order experiences have told me that if I want a reliable machine out of the box- to buy something else. MY Mk2S was the only machine I have received that works like a champ.

Open source does not mean make something that partially works and hope that the sheeple will do the final testing and report back with problems and fixes.

It would be hard to get me to buy anymore products from PR

Anything can be made better

Excellent points, all. Stuff I've had no luck communicating in a non-offensive way. 😛

The printer CAN work with junk filament, and it fails spectacularly even with decent materials. The issue is the last bit - it's not just that up front they pretend everything's great. It's that once you're in the trenches, it is the same treatment.

A little more facing of the issues and I think the MMU could be fixed right up. A few folks are making fixes, parts, firmware, and instead of encouraging it all I see are videos about new hard things they are working on instead.

I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.

Well, I guess that is good news 🙂 But I don't bother with FB 🙁 so don't get to see those. I post mine on the KISS forum, but it's been a while since I was able to print. Reliable printing is something I am still searching for. I still get much more consistent results with MMU1.

Well, I gave away some of my prints, but I make a picture of what I have at hand. My MMU2 sofar did not fail from material handling topics (had some formware topics though with streaming jobs from Octoprint, for which I had work-arounds), having said that, I am not a die-hard, print all you can print type of user. I have now completed 6 objects that were over 16hours per object, in the "just under a day" range so to say. They all succeeded. My latest test was checking out the wipe-objects and it did save almost the entire waste from the tower (both are in the picture, the object belonging to the big wipe tower were given away).

I am not sure whether I represent the silent majority of MMU2 success, or whether it is just the small amount I printed, but sofar things seem to work for me in my setup (not using the filament holders supplied with the MMU, but my dry-boxes, they are on thingiverse).

No secrets that I am aware of. The "negative"experiences made me not want to assemble if for two weeks. Then - as the firmware came out that allowed individual channel calibration I had a go. I used my time and did the calibration as accurately as I could, configuring filament ends to be pushed by the MMU just over the middle of the extruder. I used the default Slic3r settings sliced the pinguins you saw and that was my first print. All prints succeeded sofar (except when I had a few normal issues, like bed adhesion of first layer. But these were not caused by the MMU. Before I had an MK2S with MMU 1, so I had some experience.

I did enter an extra T0 in my printer start Gcode, as when printing though Octoprint that fixed an issue I had.

That's it. 🙂
