I really should save a link to the thing since I will need it sooner or later, but there is an excellent post-processing script documented in a thread around here ("Real multi material printing" or something like that) which properly adjusts temp changes for switching between material types which produces much better prints.

For purposes of dealing with support, I'm avoiding any and all mods for now.

Totally agree. It was partially a non-sequitur about my own findings about the leveling procedure/results. If they are sending parts then that is the best place to start, but these are some other things to consider and keep in mind if the new sensor doesn't appear to help.

And finally bookmarked like I should have done the other thirtyeleven times I've looked at the thread 😆

Thanks

Well... since he reported me... lol...

What is tour malfunction that you refuse to stop? What happened to you to make you this way?

Pot, meet kettle. Seriously. The thread appears to have finally gotten back to reasonable and interesting discussion and you want to start this up again? Both of you just need to simply ignore each other.

It had, and then he decided to continue it.  Every time he Snipes me I'm going to call him out on it. You want this to end, convince him to stop. Good luck.

Gnat, PM sent. Getting back on topic... and I told you so, by the way.... lol
So yeah I think the mmu2 thing with temp change makes a lot of sense. Someone a lot smarter than me did that, for sure.

Kinda wondering though, how come we had Prusa blaming enclosures on the other issue with hot fins, yet they had someone developing an enclosure with lack tables. Makes one think "hmmmmm"

To my knowledge (could have missed it somewhere), Prusa themselves haven't blamed in on an enclosure (in fact other than acknowledging that they were working on the R5, I haven't seen anything directly from them). What I saw was from community members and it was just looking for possible correlating items.

Note that I view Support and the likes of Jakub/Jeff/etc.. as separate entities. I started my career in support so I know how views/thoughts there may not be entirely in line with what the development team knows or thinks. So I wouldn't, for example, take a support person suggesting it might be enclosure related as more than them trying to help debug the issue.

Need a chat transcript for that, gnat? I have one, since you've called that into question.

As for Jakub, we have spoke. This said I believe, possibly wrongly, that he's 'connected enough' in his organization, to see the transcript, and ask "what's up with this?"  He also wrote quite a few user guides, which, honestly are pretty good.

Also, for R5, I have the STLs they sent. Not sure if they want them released, but I can show you pics once printed.

And Gnat, as for support experience... 14 years here, agent, team lead, trainer, QA, process improvement, reporting/survey intelligence, and counting, for many happy clients with over 10 different languages across the globe. I know about support too... so I try to not criticize, unless there is some serious dysfunciton there... which impacts me directly. I would never expect better from Prusa than I would expect from myself, or my own teams. However, I expect them to be better than Anet and Creality. 😉 $200 vs $1300 printers here. Prusa is supposed to be a cut above.

I will also mention... Prusa's printer, when it works, has in my experience out-printed the Ultimaker 2, and almost Ultimaker 3. It's a solid printer, when it works. I'm not here to destroy Prusa, despite what your opinions seem to be of me.

I think you are crossing issues. You commented on the enclosure being related to the fin/PINDA mount melt issue. That is what I responded to, not to the issues you have been talking to them about.

Also, for R5, I have the STLs they sent. Not sure if they want them released, but I can show you pics once printed.

They posted them in the public GitHub repository so they are ready for people with melt issues or that enjoy the bleeding edge to start playing with it. They just aren't promoting it for everyone at this time (as they probably want real world testing).

I posted the links in the melt thread that will let you visually compare the R4 and R5 versions to see the difference. It's not much so I'm not sure how much it will help, but I did manage to finally unjam my extruder and got it to run off the R5 parts last night. I'll compare them to my R4s when I rebuild the extruder this weekend and decide then if I'll use them or just convert to the Butterworth design which I printed after I found the melt issue.

Ah yeah, I wasn't aware if they posted em or not. I've not been looking at Github. Hopefully it'll help.

Feels a lot like if we had more easily swapped extruder assemblies (i.e. for single material vs multi material optimization), we'd have some benefit. The only downside, is the swappy hardware might mean re-live-z'ing, and a slightly heavier extruder assembly...

But... I've been chewing on the idea of installing a Zesty Nimble on the A8 printer I have, to see if I can make the A8 beat the MK3S. That'd be fun... Except for the electronics and frame material, the A8 I have isn't significantly different from the MK3.

Yeah the process of tearing it all down and undoing the wiring is why I have avoided replacing my melted parts as long as possible (including just cutting part out). If designed right you could probably get away without the usual re-calibration. Even the Live Z should already be pretty close (similar to swapping nozzles) and using the "life adjust" method makes that simple.

Yep. That's been on my mind for sure. I might not have enough zipties to complete this thing they want me to do now... I've torn this down so many times for support, that I might have to use twist ties temporarily until I get some more zipties from Amazon.

Support has yet to sent me an Amazon link for that, but if you know which ones to buy, that would be awesome... I'd even click an affiliate link for it. lol

This is one of the few times where I lucked out, I upgraded to the new bondtech extruder. It doesn't have the melting issue.

No idea. I happened to have a bag laying around that was "good enough" to cover my need after the 3rd time I had to de-tie stuff. My calipers say the tie portion is 2.77mm wide, 1.13mm thick, and the zip area is 90mm long (the tip is another 20mm long). The brand is "Safe-Ty" and it lists them as 4", but I didn't quickly find anything about them in a google search.

Thank you for that info. I think that'll be what I need to find em. I'll poke around a bit, or I'll just bug Prusa Support again if I have no luck (I hate contacting them....honestly).

My calipers are dead. Cheap ones ran the batteries down. Planning on getting some decent Mitutoyo's on my next paycheck.

If you are near a Lowes or Home Depot, the smallest size black ties are a great fit.

I had somewhere in the 4000-5000 hour range on my MK3 and it's parts were (other than some dust) pristine when I took it apart for the MK3S upgrade. Given that I expected I should see similar performance and certainly far more than 40 hours of PLA printing.

After my jam issues (MMU heatbreak + lots of retractions) just before getting the MMU I had planned to go with the Butterworth design, but then I finally got the shipping notice for the MMU and knowing how much grief getting the MMU would likely be I wanted to stay stock. Once I got the MMU working I've been loath to make any changes A) because swapping the extruder is such a PITA and B) I don't want to piss off the MMU again 😀
