FIX THE FREAKING MMU STARTUP CHECKS!
I have seen this was a big grip from the beta testers and it still hasn't been address. HAVE THE MMU CHECK FOR FILAMENT IN THE FINDA BEFORE MOVING THE DAMN SELECTOR! Sorry about the shouting but this should never have been released to the public with such a glaring oversight. I just had a failure and even though I stopped the print, the MMU reported a problem had been cleared (which it hadn't) and tried doing the startup sequence. Or something to that effect. The only thing I know for sure is the print was stopped and then after a couple minutes, there was a message on the display that the MMU was okay and it was going to resume printing. Did I mention I had canceled the print? The MMU then tried moving the selector even though there was filament loaded in it. It was on channel 3 and managed to move the selector to channel 1 with the filament still in there. Well, this caused all sorts of problems. I shut off the printer and was able to clear the filament out, I think. Not sure. Now the selector jams around channel 3. I can't even move it after disconnecting the lead screw nut. I'm going to have to take it apart now to figure out what is wrong.
I am beginning to regret buying this thing. It was released too earlier. Still too many problems with it. I'm taking it off for now and waiting a few more release cycles hoping the problems will be resolved when I try again.

The MMU has checked for filament before moving the selector since very early beta-testing.
The only time this fails is when the filament is just inside the selector and not quite triggering the FINDA.

If that is what it is suppose to be doing, it is failing miserably at it. I had filament all the way down to the hot end and it still tried to move it. I have also seen it try moving it before with filament loaded, but wasn't able to move it. This time it did and really screwed things up.

Funny how it is perfectly calibrated for doing the loading and everything. This isn't a calibration issue. It was reported recently by a beta tester the problem hadn't been fixed. And even if the filament was into the selector, but not far enough to trigger the finda, they have drivers that can detect stalls. It should be able to detect this and stop the selector from moving.
Compared to how well the base printer firmware is, the firmware in the MMU is not ready for release.

Just test it out yourself. After it has booted, put a piece of filament in from the front (remove the tube) far enough that it triggers the FINDA, but not so far that is goes out the other side. Then press the left or right to move to the next channel. When the selector starts up it movement, IT DOESN'T CHECK! It just blindly moves the selector. When starting up a movement of the selector, it should be checking the FINDA, but it isn't.
EDIT: There is a check for filament when booting, but not when moving the selector.
