Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
With this P2PP plug-in, purge block size is no longer issue when comparing Prusa MMU2.0 and Mosaic Palette 2.
Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
was that huge purge block around 1/6th the build plate? good gods.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Yes. And heavy. I was not able to compare the weight last night(Asia) because I ran of 9V battery for my weighing scale.
Can cause skull facture if thrown to someone’s head. Might be keeping it for self defence. Hahaha.
Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
size wise alone. took up allot of the bed.
my 3200 tool change purge block was 1.4 pounds
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Just one of the reasons why I don't use Slic3r 😉

it was for my tool change test, i could have made it smaller by abit, but it wouldn't have been too much smaller. i would not blame slicer for this huge purge block. i will give them that one.

Ex = something that has been
Spurt = drip under pressure.
It's not nice calling someone a "has-been drip under pressure" 😉
But thanks, anyways 🙂

I'm enjoying using Palette 2.0 making my MMU2.0 idle for almost 2 months now. And now that I'm using P2PP post processing plugin there is no reason for me to revert back to MMU2.0, probably except if I need 5 materials.

hey does palette let you "pre splice" filament? I might want to run a funky test 😀

Not sure about the Palette 2, but the Palette+ has a test mode where it will just splice a bunch of segments together in different colors. You can use it to replace plain filament and get a horizontal stripe look.

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
Hi all
I’m thinking of buying a Palette 2 pro or Prusa MMU but was wondering about the following...
Some of the things I make have a cutout ‘text’ on the bottom few layers. I would like to have these ‘coloured’ in. This text would be no more than say 2mm thick, how much extra time would this take to print, they currently take roughly 2 hours. Also, how big would the purge block be?
Am I right in thinking that as it would only be 10 layers (at 0.2mm / layer) it wouldn’t add much to the print time or create a big purge block?
Apologies if this is a stupid question, I’m quite new to this!
Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
I use this technique
Minimal waste
If background is dark. You need opaque colours to prevent dull infill
I recently put a white patch behind red infill on black background because the red was not opaque enough

it adds roughly 90 seconds per color change.

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+
Thanks, that’s not bad at all.
Looks like I’ll be going with the Palette 2, as the Prusa mmu still has a 2 month backlog.

It's going to depend somewhat on your settings, but a ballpark estimate is that the MMU2 adds 60-90 seconds per filament change, and the Palette2 adds about half that (30-45 seconds) per filament change.
Once you get your purge settings tuned, the MMU2 will consume on average around 0.5g of purge per change, and the Palette2 will consume around double that (~1g) per change.
Adding some color to the top or bottom layers of a print is pretty close to the ideal situation for minimizing tool changes. I've found that often I only need to color 0.5mm (2-3 layers, depending on settings) to get the effect I want. You can do a surprising amount with less than a dozen tool changes...
