Toaf I'm Guilty as charged. You are great at troubleshooting and got mmu2 working nicely - no need to consider palette.

Now that mmu2 is working nicely it does have some advantages. Price, 5 filament or 4 plus PVA, at this point in time slic3r has more features to reduce purge block size and its fast/local to your PC. Although firmware updates come fast to mk3, mmu2 has not received the amount of firmware attention initially that it needed. In my opinion mmu2 was not Prusa quality I expected at launch. In my opinion to get the most out of mmu2 or even get it to work properly u need to be an advanced user.

Palette is miles easier. Worked on 1st print. 2nd, 3rd and 4th prints all 6hour+ worked no issues...... No weeks of frustrating trial and error or quality control hobbed gear fails. No ramming settings, no unload speeds.

Slice it and forget it status achieved 3 days into owning it.

Canvas is slow and cloud based. Interface is clunky and lacks features slic3r has. The default mk3 profile isnt so hot. They seem to have made changes that effect print quality. Mosaic also slowed down the infill speed on default profile. Have to figure out way. Palette needs a few bugs worked out in firmware, its more expensive and only 4 filaments or 3 filaments and PVA. Speaking of pva, since it's so much more reliable I feel confident to try pva on palette 1st.
I had to shame them on facebook into becoming a Patreon supporter of Octoprint. Every canvas hub they ship uses Octoprint and its a major improvement to keep printer and palette in sync. Since its open source I guess they never considered contributing to Gina H. (yes I'm a monthly supporter) After a week or so they replied we are now a monthly contributor at the highest level.........$20/month if im not mistaken. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have "similiar" prints going on 2 mk3's to compare print times and purge blocks. But I'm Gonna have to redo the test, print parameters and model placement not exact, not same filament used on both printers - but the same model.

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+

I bought Palette 2.0 because I have given up MMU2.0 after long time troubleshooting. I gave MK2.5+MMU2.0 a last try and managed to run smoothly after replacing MK2 heatbreak with MK3 type. It was running very smoothly since then and my problem now is I don’t know what to do with Palette 2.0 once it arrive. I am considering buying another printer for Palette 2.0.🤪😜🤪

does the pallet handle multi materials? wonder how well it can fuse them

I know my mmu2 is about to start

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+

I think that is why I picked the mmu. I don't know if they will be able to do it. granted im just now messing with it on the MMU.

don't forget to change settings back after messing with things.. my print had one color with retractions off. I did make some cool cob webs.

Do you have a test print with different materials in mind?

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+

ive got a cheesy action figure that has a flex core I did manually before I had the mmu. turned out neat. but I was controlling the speed for the flex by tuning the speed % on the operator panel. now I have to mess with volumetric speed crap.. not in that big of a rush. but I will slowly start playing around with it.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Thank you so much for this post. Prusa agreed to take back the MMU 2.0 and I ordered a Palette 2 off of Amazon. It will be here Tuesday!

I've spent full days messing with with MMU 2.0 and it's been beyond frustrating and I can't get the thing working for me. A out of the box working device that doesn't require so much damn footprint for the spool holders is beyond exciting for me. I've had to blow up my entire workspace for the MMU to fit with the spool holders and it's even more frustrating that I can't get a single damn successful print out of the hundreds I've attempted.

It sure seemed based on this thread and others that t he Palate is a better choice.

It's a much more expensive choice. And 1 less color.... But being less frustrated is major.

100% the reason why the MMU is going back and I bought the Palette. I would have paid much more for the MMU if it delivers the same out of the box experience as others are having with the Palette.

The Palette will be here Tuesday, yay Amazon prime, and I'll have the shipping label for the MMU sometime next week. I'll gladly share my experience with the Palette.

Only same model mk3's. Not same printer profile, not same filament. Not a far comparison, I'm not going to weigh purge blocks yet don't ask.

Re: Comparing MMU2 and Palette+

the palette takes away the problems from the printer end of things. it simplifies the printer back to a single material machine which has less complexity and less likely to go wrong.

the palette is also portable you can have it feed into any printer and increase its capabilities.
you could take a prusa MK1 and suddenly give it MMU capabilities.

it is a very elegant solution when you think how they were using multiple hotends not too long ago.

that was one of the issues that i wrote about in the first Palette 2 pro post i left. keeping the unit in sync is a problem
However this is the same issue the MMU can have. there is a little more checking with the MMU since an error on a color change can cause a pause. but if the wipe tower fell over or a part broke on the model there would be no error generated and the printer would just keep pumping out filament until the gcode finished.

It depends who you ask. Both solutions have pros/cons. So far I've seen complains and successful prints for both units. Right now it's more a personal preference which one to choose.

For me MMU2 has a potential to be a real multi material unit. But the software is not fully there yet. With Palette2 it's just not possible by design. Try to fuse PETG/PLA/ABS/FLEX together in one string for example.

Is it not possible to splice PLA with flex? I wasn't aware of that.

I listed 4 materials as an example. Some of them might splice better with each other then the others. And it's not a complete list btw.
My point is, with MMU2 you can inject in an object a material which doesn't bond well together. With Palette it doesn't work. You need a strong bond for the splice by design.

Especially softer FLEX is pretty nasty thing already with single direct extrusion. I'm pretty sure it's a tough print for both machines. The only advantage I see on MMU2, you can pause the print, load/unload it manually. Fix the issue and continue printing. On Palette2 you're screwed if something goes wrong.
