MK3S - Mulltiple problems with MMU2 - about to get rid of the upgrade

Hello

MK3S - MMU2

Firmware info: Printer 3.8.1-2869 , MMU2 1.0.6-372

I would like to list issues that are currently happening with my MMU2. If anyone has a solution to them, I would be happy to hear it, but some of the problems seem to be ignored by devs. I am about to get rid of the upgrade since it just does not work and I am not willing to waste more time. I watched many official and unofficial tutorials, red and checked the manuals but nothing helps. And honestly does not even cover the issues I have. Most of the help is about aligning the gears and stuff.

1. The stuck FINDA - The FINDA sensor gets stuck on value 1 no matter what. Even if you remove it from the selector, it still shows 1 when hanging midair. The only solution is to restart the whole thing to get 0. It looks like this issue has been around for a while, but is ignored by Devs.

2. The pulley motor issue - This might be caused by the FINDA problem, yet the motor keeps pushing and pulling back the filament just by few centimeters. This means it never reaches the head IR sensor and just calls an error saying MMU needs my attention. There is no obstacle, stuck filament or bad tip of the filament. Simply the motor never pushes it far enough, as it pulls it back immediately.

3. Crash when trying to print - When I try to print any Gcode examples from Prusa, it will check the 9 points and crash. The printer reboots and throws me back to the main menu. Before I installed the upgrade, I had no issue. Now I did not manage to print a single thing.

4. Gcode from slicer not compatible - When I create a Gcode file for the MK3S MMU2 and try to print it, the printer warns me that the Gcode is for a different printer. If you check my firmware you can see that there should be no problem at all.

Overall I spent almost two weeks making this work. Checking all troubleshooting and info there is. No luck to make a successful print. I regret to ever buy this upgrade and will remove it completely from the printer. I know some users may say it is my fault, but if I managed to put together the MK3S with no issues and have perfect prints, it kind of proves I should be able to assemble the upgrade too. Unless there are some manufacturing or software issues, which I believe there are.

BTW I am from Prague, so if the devs would need any info, or even want to see the upgrade themselves, just let me know and I will show up in your factory.

Bye

Tomas

RE: MK3S - Mulltiple problems with MMU2 - about to get rid of the upgrade

Hi,

I had a devil of a time with my MMU until I finally nailed the issue. I had so many unrelated errors that I was about to pull, what little hair I still have, out. I woke up one morning determined to find the problem. I had a warped idler barrel, this changed the position of the bearings that roll the filament over the gears. The investigation was simple, with the steppers off I spun the barrel watching as the motor wobbled. I printed another barrel with PetG and have had nothing but luck since.

The error that pops up about the wrong gcode I get that whenever I start a print and the MMU hasn't completely cycled.

The FINDA error sounds like a separate issue, watch the led and pass the filament through by hand. It should go on and off. Even a bad connection on the MMU board, but I bet you've checked that several times. I had to put one more tie wrap to limit the FINDA cable movement.

Stay safe and healthy, Phil
