Mind your filament!
After lots of frustrations, I can now say that my MMU2S is working as intended. I thought I would give a tip to folks having issues; be mindful of the filament type/quality/brand you're using. Most AmazonBasics PLA doesn't work well, always resulting with grinding, usually in the MMU2S' gears. That filament has a rough surface. You can feel it with your fingers when you run you fingers along the filament. I do have one exception to this and it's their organge PLA; that one is smooth and glossy. Their white PLA doesn't work for me. I put in a different brand in the same position as the white one, and that other brand was smooth and glossy, and it works quite well.
Not all of AmazonBasics PLA has that rough and mat finish but most of the ones I have do, except for orange. I have some of their ABS but haven't tried that one yet. Mind you, it might be different depending on production batches.
So, if you get frustrated with filament grinding, getting stuck and such, try a different filament brand.

I think that simply falls into the "reduce friction" category of MMU life.
I have 3 Amazon PLAs and 1 PETG that all work fine through my MMU2. I hadn't really paid attention before, but the PLAs all have the rough texture that you mention.

The gist of the post was all about the last sentence, as opposed to going through a bunch of friction adjustments that can be quite complicated and/or difficult to grasp for someone.

Then you are just treating the symptom rather than the problem which means it is likely to cause you grief again in the future.
I completely agree that it is a giant PITA to sort out, but friction in the filament path is shaking out to be the most common source of pain in getting the MMU to work consistently.

the only thing i noticed in terms of filament so far is that i have one yellow filament that seems to be far more brittle than the others, anytime there is a filament change with this one i has the tendency to break off in the buffer.
