Upgrading stock XY stepper motors
I have vertical banding which is a known issue with the stock Prusa 1.8 deg stepper motors. Therefore I want to try replacing them with .9 deg motors. I want make sure I pick the best option, which by reading old threads seems to be the Moons' MS17HA2P4100. Are they still the best option? I could save a few bucks and get the LDO branded ones, but the Moons' seem to have slightly better results and I would have buyers remorse if I cut myself short.
I also know I have to adjust my steps, but that isn't an issue.
RE: Upgrading stock XY stepper motors
Probably one of the major issues people encounter with that mod is the motor change makes sensorless homing and crash detection no longer work. There are some third party firmware options that may work, but not all have reported success.
Sounds like you already found it, but if not, there's 46 pages worth of reading here:
In my case I went with the StepperOnline offering (17HM15-0904S) and was pleasantly surprised to find I can continue to use the stock firmware after accounting for the step changes, and the surface finish is superb.

@vintagepc
That is actually the thread that I took a look at and learned about which motors are best. However... I didn't read through all 46 pages and read about the issues with homing/crash detection. Welp, you sold me, I'm going to grab a couple StepperOnline motors and slap those on.
RE:
Do (17HM15-0904S) really work ? as 0.9 steppers like on new PRUSA MK4 with no need to change in the firmware. I am also thinking of thicker body and higher strength motors as my x and y axis lost it's power over a few years due to failed bearing change.

I have been using 0.9 deg Moon's stepper (MS17HA2P4100) on my MK3 for years. They work without any problems. Esteps (and possibly some current settings) must be adapted in firmware.
