RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

Hi folks,

I have the same issue with the thermo anomaly message popping up after flashing the latest FW 3.13 for revo w/o high flow.

Initially the first time it popped up during the first thermal calibation. The hot end heated up until 86° and then I got the error message. After some tries it went through but now I got the issue directly after starting the first print in PETG.

Don't know if there is something to do in addition when I read your messages. I will try the print over night and see what happen. Maybe I will also try a complete factory reset but don't know. At the end maybe I will just deactivate this function again...

I did that and also found the new firmware release that includes Revo support. It's at  https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases

I am now printing with a new REVO 6 hot end.

This worked for me!  Factory reset "All Data" and run through the wizard.  Perfect.

Just don't forget to install the 0.4mm Revo nozzle and have your Smooth Sheet ready so you can get first layer on the first try.

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

Does not make any difference for me.

I tried the factory reset "All data". Afterwards I also tried the complete new setup with factory reset all data and before the initial setup flashing the FW again. Nothing changes. After the bed initialization I immediately get the thermal anomaly error message right after the TM calibration started. Core heating up and then aborting the process with the long beep.

Just to be sure, the 40W Revo needs the FW E3DREVO_fw_MK3S_MK3S+_3_13_0_6873.hex

The HF 60W is only for the high flow kit, right?

I guess I will give it another try with the PID calibration, afterwards if its not working I will tun off the TM.

+1 it was the magic trick I was looking for as well. It seems Prusa is aware of these problems, I found a page when looking for how to factory reset...

https://help.prusa3d.com/article/full-system-refresh-original-prusa-i3_133258

sometimes it is not enough and you might need to perform a full system refresh, which will delete all stored values, settings and effectively revert the system back to the factory defaults. [...] This clears old calibration and voltage data not wiped by a Firmware update. Between firmware versions, there can be leftover calibration data no longer supported, or values that have changed index.

I also noticed one thing...

It says you need to flash firmware after factor reset/data wipe. So I did that also, even though I already had 3.13 Revo flashed. It could have made some difference perhaps. Either way, it works fine now! Just finished a long print with my new hot end!

For the notes: This is what I did. "factory reset", "clear all data". Did NOT do calibration then, but flashed the 3.13 Revo firmware. THEN did the calibration wizard. One step in the wizard was Thermal calibration, which passed without problem this time! Then after first layer calibration everything was good to go! (I did not do the additional PID calibration)

Thanks for the update.  I have been waiting to upgrade the firmware on my MK3S that I replaced with the Revo.

I've tried the below with no success. Fails at the thermal calibration during the wizard. I've even tried 3.13.2 and failed at the same place in the wizard.

"factory reset", "clear all data". Did NOT do calibration then, but flashed the 3.13 Revo firmware. THEN did the calibration wizard.

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

Actually I noticed I get "Thermal Anomaly" beep after some time printing on longer prints. But only a warning, it continues and you don't have any fault message to clear afterwards. Whatever, I can live with that. It works great otherwise. So nice with quick nozzle change. I have just confirmed that my all four (0,25-0,8) nozzles work good without needing some first layer tuning differences. Am printing a small (62,5%) 3D Benchy with 0.25 nozzle and 0.07 layer height right now just for fun (I did never try 0.25 on the regular V6 even though I've had it).

BTW. @Mezzauk : 🙁 Maybe one quick solution would be to flash the old 3.11 firmware? I was thinking of doing that myself until I found this other solution.

I had same issue, than I did a factory reset, clear all data, flash firmware with E3DREVO_fw_MK3S_MK3S+_3_13_2_7080. That worked for me.

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

I have some new issue 🙁 after getting too irritated about the beeps I did send the G-code M310 S0 followed by M500 (through Octoprint). That got rid of the beep. Very nice.

But, now I have some problem with the prints being interrupted in the middle of the print and I need to re-heat the nozzle. BUT, the bed is still heating. It can go over night. When I wake up and check the print it has come a bit, bed is warm. But nozzle need to heat up again, and often I need to remove and insert filament also.

That was not case this morning though. It just stopped. For no particular reason. I clicked ok to reheat the nozzle but after some minute after no change I decided to reset the printer by pressing the X-button. Then after restart everything was reset, ie, I couldn't resume my print 🙁

Don't know what is going on but I am thinking of downgrading to 3.11 and see if that solves every problem. What revision do you use then, you who have already tried this, the "3.11.1-RC1" seems to be the latest 3.11 there is, not even a stable release :/

What version did you use, the "3.11.1-RC1"? Does it still work good? 🙂

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

Oh my, I discovered some very interesting. The M310 GCode can fiddle with these settings:
https://cfl.prusa3d.com/display/PI3M3/Supported+G-codes

I run the M310 alone which echoed:

M310 P40.00 U-0.0014 V1.05 C9.06 D0.1500 L270 S0 B1 E1.23 W0.85 T-7.00

The beep is active. And the thermal model is deactived now, (S0).

I'm gonna update to the latest firmware. 3.13.2, leave the thermal model on default (activated), and then if problem arises yet again just disable the beeper with M310 B0. That must be the better solution.

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

Hi, i took some advice and turned off via Gcode then updated both MMU3 and MK3S+ to latest firmware and it's now working!

RE: Thermal Anomaly... and Revo

The factory reset worked for us as well, thanks for sharing!

Posted by: @antimix

I have just finished to upgrade the MK3S +MMU2S to MK3S+ (removed the MMU2 for now) and during the upgrade I finally installed also the REVO  quick change.

Now I followed the guide and I installed the E3DREVO_fw_MK3S_MK3S+_3_13_0_6873.hex firmware, and I got the Thermal Anomaly during wizard.

Then I tried the PID Calibration: the printer asked to set the temperature (210°) , and then on the LCD:

42/210° - PID Cal. 0/5 for 3 seconds and then

50/0° - PID Cal. 0/5  where the 210° become 0° and the temp started go slowly down again (the firmware turned off the heater ?)

Then it stays in this state forever until you reset.

If I set the nozzle temp manually (e.g. 90°) in a second it become 50/0° and the THERMAL ANOMALY message appears with lots of beeps.

It is like the temp go up only for not more than 5 degree and then raise an error and the firmware stops the heather.

- What do you suggest ? Going back to 3.11 ? And if so, does it exist a 3.11 REVO version ?
