Skelestruder experience?
While poking around Thingiverse I inevitably end up looking at the Skelestruder. It's distractingly colorful, but does anyone actually know anyone who has used it? It's got a bunch of weird/interesting features, but I only have 1 printer and there's too much other stuff I want to print to risk mucking around with it.
Any thoughts on it? Worthwhile features or just a fun experiment?

I have installed the Skelestruder on my printer. I have noticed an improvement in print quality, but I did install a Moon stepper for my extruder at the same time. I do like the layer cooling fan duct much better. It seems to do much better with overhangs, IMO. I also like the gearing up to increase the torque on the filament drive.

Changing E steps Because you now have a geared extruder, you need to tell the firmware to move the extruder more steps for the same distance. This is easily accomplished using M92 E980.

I have been using it for many months and have had 0 problems and great prints. I didn't have bad prints to start with but felt the need to tinker 🙂

While it's up, I too have a skelestruder and find it works very well. I also like the fact that the print is nicely visible and the omega cooling nozzle works well.
I did have to reprint it in polycarbonate since the original PET-G nozzle started to droop and catch the prints, but I was printing at around 290 Deg so not surprising really.
I also reprinted the cage and extruder drive wheel in PC for additional rigidity.

I can relate. I printed my fan shroud, PINDA mount and hotfins in ABS; PETG just didn't hold up (I was only printing PETG, nothing super exotic). Beyond that, performs like a champ together with my MMU2S. I may need to reprint my toothed gear though, the large one is running slightly off center due to deforming over time from the pressure of the screw.

That's exactly why I reprinted it with clear PC using a 0.25 nozzle, never looked back, but putting the two halves together, now that took some doing, I thought I was going to break something, also worth printing the SP_Cage out of PC for it's heat resistance and SP_Spider for increased stiffness of the extruder motor mount.
I bought some new filament drive gears, I think they were Winsin brand or something like that, but non rusting like the originals, they are working really well and have slightly sharper teeth as well, but I did have to adjust my extrusion E-Steps from 490 to 494 for correctly tuned extrusion length.
I use the SP_Inlet _STD and have no issues with flexible filaments and the PTFE tube is capricorn tubing and finally, the filament sensor SP_Bplate_beta I printed out of PETG using the 0.25 nozzle and it has been working reliably without any issues.
Extruder motor OMC Stepperonline 17HS10-0704S.

Yeah, though PC was pretty pricey for just that job; the ABS one has been holding up well so far.

I've started to get my parts for this as well, the only high temp filament I have on hand is a roll of Pursament ASA and I've printing most of it in that, the clear part is PETG. I'm waiting for the belt and shaft from China to arrive to make the swap. What else should I do aside from changing the ESteps? Had my MK3S for almost 9 month now. I wanted to improve the print quality, and try TPU soon, still new to the 3D printer world. I also ran into a lot of issues printing proto pasta htpla, jams like no tomorrow. Hopefully this will let me print htpla nicely as well. Any tips would be appreciated.

Just E-steps. Since it's a bit lighter you can also up the speeds a bit.
Oh, and you can drop your K-factor for filament LA by 5-10 since it's a smidge shorter (but this value is best calibrated anyway)
Edit: You'll want to use ABS or similar for the fan shroud. PETG just won't hold up - at least, it hasn't for me.
