Settings for printing with 0.6 nozzle
So i think about trying a 0.6 nozzle. For the moment i´m printing more bigger parts without fine details.
I already tried the settings for the 0.6 mm nozzle, but printing time did not get much faster. So i found
the default Slic3r PE settings use still 0.2mm layer high.
Is there any reason? As far as i know max layer high is 0.48mm for this nozzle size. Are there any other
values i have to take care? Perhaps the used printing speed?
Can the more experienced user give me some help? Next parts i´d like to print are the parts for the
Lack enclosure. Is a layer high of 0.35 a good value to start?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Settings for printing with 0.6 nozzle
The preset layer heights are set regardless of nozzle width I believe. If you want a different layer height then you need to actually set it yourself.
Hope that helps,
Neal

The Prusa presets are just what they're supporting. You can always tweak and customize things. The general guidelines are:

The bigger concern are your max volumetric speeds (MVS) with the E3D V6 hotend. Slic3rPE does a good job of letting you set this on a print job or filament basis. You don't want to exceed 11.5mm^3/s or so with the E3D V6 (Prusa's 15mm^3/s is a bit aggressive) lest you get extruder clicking. This means at 0.48mm layer height, if you're not using Slic3rPE with MVS, cap speeds at 33mm/s. That sounds slow, but you're moving a lot of filament!
To give you a taste of what to expect, here are 2 open-top cubes printed at 0.20mm layer height, 20% infill and 120% extrusion widths using a 0.40mm and 0.80mm nozzle. First the 0.40mm nozzle:
The larger nozzle printed at much slower linear speeds, but actually finished up 2-3 minutes faster. If you're after functional parts, a larger nozzle is definitely the way to go.
My notes on why focusing on speed settings is a mistake here, and general notes on nozzle sizes here.

Thanks a lot 🙂 Got a better understanding what i have to take care, will start my test print tomorrow 😀
