New toy from bondtech
There is a nice new extruder kit from bondtech for prusa printers. https://www.bondtech.se/en/product/prusa-i3-mk2-5-mk3-extruder-upgrade/#tab-description
It seems to work with mmu2 very well too.
Re: New toy from bondtech
Saw this too, am wondering what the improvement will be. 113 euro is 1/7 of the total printer price.
Will this fix the Inconsistent Extrusion #602 issue?
Re: New toy from bondtech
indeed, I ordered one. some cracked pc parts, time for a new extruder anyway.
lots of smart people involved in design, and made from sls printed nylon.
Re: New toy from bondtech
What is the difference between these two for MK3, apart from that the cheapest doesnt include stepper motor?
Re: New toy from bondtech
supposedly they're all exactly the same extruder with or without the gears and stepper based on where you're coming from.
so the 115$ would get you both the stepper and an extra set of bondtech gears.
Re: New toy from bondtech
It would be the perfect upgrade if it also fixed the filament sensor by using a proxy bearing or something like that.
From what I can see on the pictures, it has no changes near the sensor. I would have ordered one right away if a sensor fix was included as well.

Seconded...
seems such an obvious upgrade, wonder why it was missed?

the top cap comes off just like every other one. without knowing its exact dimensions i'm thinking it would be trivial to adapt one of the existing mods that are intended to drop right on top without any changes to the body.
Re: New toy from bondtech
I have printed a mod with integrated revised filament sensor to save adding more imperfections in the filament path

Will this fix the Inconsistent Extrusion #602 issue?
First impressions from people are positive. It will not fix 602 completely (probably not possible on a direct drive system) but it will improve it. Switching to 3:1 seems to help a lot and it reduces a lot of weight.
Re: New toy from bondtech
Am I reading correctly that the only change to printer configuration is to run the provided gcode to set extruder steps? I'd like to avoid custom firmware if possible. Running that gcode after a firmware update would be fine. If all that's required is the hardware swap, I might consider this rather than (someday) getting around the the r3 extruder updates.

I wonder what prusa will do, is this an upgrade they are considering, or will this be default for every mk3 at some point. Or mk3s 😉
Re: New toy from bondtech
From Martin at Bondtech:
“Our G-code only contains two lines.
M92 E415
M500
The M500 command saves the new e-step value to the controller so it is used each time the printer starts up.
Everything else is left unchanged so it has no effect on the controller at all other than the e-step value.”
(In the case of the MK3, E415 above would be E830)

It seems to work with mmu2 very well too.
Are there any slicer modifications that are needed for MMU2?
Re: New toy from bondtech
no slic3r mods needed for me. I got mine about a week ago and installed it this past weekend. It's been running great. Seems to be able to better handle finicky filament like maker geeks a lot better as well.
Re: New toy from bondtech
I am interested in the extruder too.
But I have some questions:
I never assembled a hotend before. Is changing the ptfe tube hard? I am somewhat afraid of cutting and "shaping" it.
Is it as silent as the stock extruder? I read somewhere that it may be be noisier.
Does it have any drawbacks?
Secondly i would like to upgrade the carriage too. I don't like having to take it apart to get access to the belt. Some has any recomendations? I don't even know if i have the newest stock parts. The pictures are confusing and conflicting.
Thanks in advance! (sorry if this is the wrong thread)

You can read everything about assembling / disassembling the printer here -> https://manual.prusa3d.com/c/Original_Prusa_i3_MK3_kit_assembly
Re: New toy from bondtech
I'm interested in this upgrade too but I need to see some prints to be convinced; preferably before and after.
