Octoprint no longer connects to MK3S+. Why? Help!

Octoprint has been working fine until recently. I am using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Now it will not connect to the printer. It says it is offline. I can watch the printer with the wifi camera through the Zero 2 W just fine.  My serial port has not changed (/dev/ttyAMA0), the Baudrate is 115200 (as always).

I have tried deleting and reloading the web interface. I have rebooted the pc and the printer. I have extended the connection time out. I have tried changing the serial port in settings and nothing seems to work. Googling the issue shows the printer does not find/see any serial port but I have no idea how/where to re-install the serial port on the Pi.

Can anyone help with this issue? Thank you in advance for your time.

Bill

RE:

Sounds like either the USB port on the Prusa went south, or the RPi port died. Assume you've power cycled your Prusa printer and Pi.. but you might want to start troubleshooting both hardware ports to see if there is a hardware failure.. I suspect there might be.

Thank you Crab. I will start looking into that.

Thank you for getting back to me.

It could be that you performed some software update on the Pi and that caused an issue.. but if you absolutely did zero .. (didn't update any firmware on printer or Pi or some auto-update didn't happen) then it sounds like a hardware failure is what to check.

How is your Pi connected to the printer, via USB cable or directly to the board via the GPIO pins?

If via USB: the USB plug sometimes can have a little play in the socket on the electronics box and lose the connection. Or you could try another cable.

I did do an update recently and for some reason RPI got turned off. Lesson learned to double check settings! I'm glad it was an easy fix, Thank you for your help. Now to the next issue of nothing sticking to the build plate! But that will be a different post when I've exhausted all the ideas I have to fix it.

Thank you again

Bill

The build plate adhesion has a few factors.. bed temp, cleanliness, Z height.   So clean bed well with soap water.. this is better, especially for PLA, than alcohol. There are contaminants that alcohol can’t dissolve.  If you have a thermal temp gun (or can borrow one) point it at your bed to ensure it is getting close to temp. It will remain below the set temp since the sensor is not at the top.. but you just want to know your bed is getting hot.. (I set my MK3S+ to 65 for PLA for good adhesion). But the most common issue is your Z height is too high. If you use multiple types of PEI sheets, each has its own setting. Z height is the toughest thing to get right and takes some experience.. There are a multitude of articles on this forum about getting the Z height right.. just dig into some of them. Once all that is sorted, I still have some issue with parts with very small area contacting bed.. I will use brims (never rafts as they are too hard to remove).. and I also use glue stick quite a bit to get extra adhesion on ends of parts.

I was going to create a separate post because I have tried all you mentioned and more. Still no reliable adhesion to the bed. I have been googling the issue and if I'm not successful with the suggestions, I'll post a new thread. Mine has a weird twist!
