duplicate z-axis (hight)
Hallo,
I need to print higher (longer) objects. Instead of buying another printer, I think of a mod for the mk3.
The simplest way seems to be a mod of the z-axis. (I need prints with about 400 mm). I only would need to resize the z-frame, get longer z-rods and longer cables.
I think that should be no problem for the software (firmware).
It seems a little pit to easy – do I forget something?
What do you think about that?
Thank you!
Andreas

So easy, in fact, it's already been done. Your choice of 320 or 420 mm!

I think there's a 600mm variant somewhere as well but I can't find the link offhand.

Yes Yes - that´s it!
could you please be so nice and send me a link to the 600mm version? I looked for it but was not able to find it.
thank you very much!
Re: duplicate z-axis (hight)
Unfortunately I did not bookmark it and also cannot find it anymore. But the principle is almost identical to the Zaribo mod linked, you would simply need to get:
- Longer lead screws for the motors (will probably need to just use standard D shaft steppers and couplers here, unless you want to spend $$$ and have someone like LDO custom make them for you)
-Longer extrusion lengths for Z
- Longer 8mm rods
- Longer cables for the extruder assembly to still be able to reach the einsy, or splice your own.
Note it's generally considered that the 8mm rods aren't ideal for things of this length though, as they start to show significant flex over those kinds of spans - which is probably why the 600mm variant doesn't really exist. After all is said and done, unfortunately it is probably cheaper to just buy a cheap printer with such a large volume already that uses something like v-rails... (CR10 comes close, probably a bit easier to mod than a MK3)
