Can't PID Calibrate Revo V6 on Mk3S

Hi all.

I just upgraded my Mk3S to a Revo hotend (after bending the heatbreak on my original V6). Installed, wired, looking good. Ran PID calibration as  suggested by E3D's install guide and it doesn't error (like I've seen for some others), just sits doing nothing after a weird zeroing of the target temp. See video here: https://imgur.com/W9X6UnQ

Any advice would be welcome.

Worked this out. Doesn't work on 3.10 or 3.12.1 firmware, works fine on 3.11. Leaving this here in case anyone else has the same issue.

I haven't had any issues with PID tuning my MK3S/Revo6 combo on 3.10.1.   Don't know about 3.10.0 however.

E3D's website really needs to be updated to warn people about this problem with the 3.12 firmware

Sheesh... you're kidding? I just tore everything back apart and put in my original hotend to try and troubleshoot this. Thought maybe I had a bum thermistor or something. Well at least I'm better at removing the hotend now... grrr

Thank you for posting this though! Glad to find out about this now before I sank a ton of time into this.

I have the same problem as you and I mount 3.12.2. do you have any suggestions to solve, if not reinstall the old firmware? A thousand thanks

RE: Can't PID Calibrate Revo V6 on Mk3S

@Dusty: Thank you for this post! Just installed Revo 6 and couldn't get the PID Calibration to work on 3.12.2 (exactly the same as in your case!). I went to download 3.11.0 and I saw that 3.13.0 firmware was just released today (July 28th) with "E3D Revo support" at the top of the change log! Flashed it and... the PID Calibration of Revo 6 still did't work for me with 3.13.0! I flashed 3.11.0 and the PID Calibration completed like a charm.

As of now, it looks like flashing 3.11.0 is the way to make the PID Calibration to work (see my post above).

Hope this helps.

Just to make sure, for those still having issues on 3.13.0, did you follow the revo specific directions from the github?

Please flash the E3DREVO_.hex files on your modified printer. You can find these in the e3d_REVO_.zip file.

Curious for myself as I have yet to install the revo on mine until these issues are resolved.

No - in my excitement to try the firmware, I assumed that Revo support is included already and I didn’t read the full release log! ☹️ Lesson learned!

I’ll try again later today and I’ll post an update.

RE:

Due to the new thermal model in FW 3.12.x, non-original Prusa hotend accessories may cause errors such as "thermal anomaly" (and other...). It will take a while until the most common hotend variants available on the market are included in the FW (and also functional).

I flashed the E3D specific firmware (E3DREVO_fw...) and the thermal calibration passed. No printing issues so far.

Note there is a version of the firmware for the 'regular' and 'high flow' variant of the heater, so if you have added the High Flow Hotside (60W) you need to pick that variant.

I flashed the E3DREVO_fw_MK3S_MK3S+_3_13_0_6873.hex firmware on an MK3S+ with Revo 6 with the regular heater and couldn't run neither the PID Calibration nor the Thermal Calibration, so I'm guessing that I'm missing something. Did you do anything before or after flashing the firmware?

Thanks!

RE: Can't PID Calibrate Revo V6 on Mk3S

I didn't do anything before flashing. After installing the FW on the printer, it wanted to immediately run the thermal calibration. Before letting it run I flashed my MMU2S. Then I let the thermal calibration run.

I haven't tried the PID calibration yet.

@halfabee: Thank you! It didn’t ask to run the thermal calibration and it didn’t work when I tried to run it manually. What was your previous version? I was on 3.12.2 and it did ask me to run the thermal calibration when I installed it. Maybe I need to do a factory reset first?

RE: Can't PID Calibrate Revo V6 on Mk3S

I came from 3.11.0, so that explains why it prompted me to do the calibration. Did you disable the thermal check in 3.12 to make it work with the Revo? Maybe that would cause some issue with 3.13.

RE: Can't PID Calibrate Revo V6 on Mk3S

Thank you for following up!

No, I was on 3.12.2 when I installed the Revo. I was aware of the issues and I was going to disable the Thermal Model when I saw 3.13.0 and tried the update. Once this didn't work, I installed 3.11.0, run the PID Calibration and tried the Revo-specific 3.13.0 firmware without success.

For now, I'm back on 3.11.0, since I have some printing to do 😀. Once this is complete, I'll try to figure out what is causing the problem in my case.

@Siff3d Seems like you are not the only one to have a problem going from 3.12. https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/thermal-anomaly-mk3s-revo-3-13-0/

Maybe check some of the comments there when you are ready to try this upgrade again.

@halfabee: Thank you! Yes, it looks like that this is still work-in-progress... I'll look into the details when I have a chance.

Thank you for posting this. I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what's been going on with my printer. Same situation as you.
