Support Issue

Hello everyone, I received my Prusa I3 MK2S two days ago (in kit), after having mounted and calibrated I did some tests of printing but I encountered a problem.
I have tested with the software Prusa Control and I have a huge problem with the support created by the software, once removed the piece shows a horrible finish!
I think it is a problem of layer thickness between the part and the support but nothing can be parameterized in the Prusa Control software.

How to avoid this horrible finish? (view the photo)

PS: This is my 4th 3D printer (UPBox, UpMini and Zortrax M200) and none has ever left me such a finish, I am very disappointed ...

sorry for the picture I do not know how to orient it, on my computer it is straight

Re: Support Issue

I have never used Prusa Control. I would recommend using Slic3r which also came with the printer and allows MUCH more control over the supports settings.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Hell aaron,

I did the same test with slic3r and the result is the same.
In fact, the first face layer of the part (the one that is glued to the support) contains spaced lines and I found no adjustments to reduce this gap

The software zortrax, tiertime etc ... do it very well. Why not slic3 or prusa control?
I am disappointed with this result and it is very problematic for mechanical parts for example.

with the software up from tiertime for example when I remove the support I see absolutely no difference on the layers and supports stand out very well and no visible trace.

First layer touching the support

Second layer is good

Re: Support Issue

You may need to reduce the "Contact Z distance" in Slic3r to squish the supported surface against the support.

I have already tried but without success, or so I have not selected the right option, where is it?

Re: Support Issue

What material are you printing with? Is it ABS or PLA?

Re: Support Issue

ABS has a strong tendency to warp upwards from the support. With ABS, you may need to fuse the object to the support quite strongly. For the model you presented, PLA may warp up to some extent as well.

Your issue is similar to the following. You may get some ideas from the discussion on how to handle your case.

Re: Support Issue

Isn't there currently bug threads running on Github (and here in the forum too I think) talking about Slic3rPE needing work on the support setting because of difficulties specifically arising from trying to reduce the contact distance and it not actually keeping to the values set by users? Doesn't seem like this is a fix...

Re: Support Issue

MK2S here. I have been trying to print a part with a horizontal overhang, and the finish under the overhang is terrible. When the overhang starts, It takes about 5-6 layers for it to get itself sorted out. In the Slic3r Preview I looked closer at the last support layer up to the first overhang layer. There's 6 or 7 model layers before the overhang starts. There's my problem! So I tinkered with the Contact Z distance and lowered it from 0.15 to 0.1. That removed one layer - great! But still terrible finish because there is still no contact between the support and the overhang. I lower Contact Z from 0.1 to 0.05, 0.04, 0.03, 0.02, 0.01. That had no effect in the Preview. I played with various other settings. Al I can get is full direct contact, or 6 layers between with a big gap. I'm stuck! People say they are having success with Cura, but seems like a lot of settings and file hacking to get everything right. Is no one successfully printing overhang/support with their Prusa??
