...

Additional note to the post above:
Bridging the long side or the short side does not make any difference in the process, because of your infill, which is the same everywhere. In contrary: Bridging the long side will give more stability to your object considering tension legthwise.

...

Sorry, but I sincerely have no I idea what you mean by "not make any difference in the process, because of" the infill.

Also, I do understand the tensile properties of filament/layer direction, however the bridging is inconsistent between layer heights and slightly revised parts, where the part had minor design changes, with significant effects to how Slic3r interprets the (revised) geometry. Plus, the "bridging along the long edge" was really a short-hand for 'it is bridging diagonally at approximately 1.5 degrees from the nearest long-edge, but is actually not bridging but doing a bottom layer infill'.

So unless you can direct me to a setting in Slic3r that controls "bridging orientation", I concluded that it was a bug to fix in the software, as nobody has pointed out Slic3r setting(s) to manage in order to eliminate these "issues".

Very cool, looking forward to using it.

Assembled MK2.

Re: Slic3r wish list

Hi

I'm very new to the whole 3d printing scene and super new/newbie to the slicer settings etc but i just want to through my idea out there.

As i see it, any slicer has some problems with bridging and this is normal to a degree but i have s simple idea to make bridging better in certain objects. Especially for big cubes who need to be closed up on the top but really for any object who has an rectangular like shape....

As i see it now slicer tries to make normal bridge:

But it could also make them this way:

So it would be possible to bridge far if the object is recanglar or it wold even work on a circle. Im no math geek so i can't tell you how to programm it and maybe it is even done so (but i did not see it that way)

Would like your thoughts on this....

Re: Slic3r wish list

If you have a larger object infill should be used so that the bridging is kept to a minimum. Alternatively you can design your own internal support structures...

Re: Slic3r wish list

As this is a wishlist, I will just add it here:
Only thing that I am really missing in Slic3r right now, is to easily set supports only where I need them. That's a feature that is handled really well in S3D and apparently Craftware. I am not sure, if it is possible to include this in Slic3r, but that would be a really nice addition ^^

My wish: as there is option "Minimum travel after retraction", I would appreciate also "Minimum travel after Lift Z". 😎

Hi,

I have a hell of a time to slice properly a specific design (this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1452830 ).

Especially, make a proper support for the back of the hat and for the right arm.

What should be the best way to slice it ? Having ability to add manually support to specific places would help sooooo much !

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Hi Manuel,

Using support to hold support would probably fail a lot of times, as these string are not "glued" together and thiner than other extruded material !

Re: Slic3r wish list

Hello all,

Initially I started a post in the 'Print tips - Slic3r settings...' section of the forum with the title: "Slic3r 1.30.0.25 Bridging...", but seeing how nobody addressed my questions, I am wondering if this is software related, and as such could potentially be addressed by the PR team.

I have two instances:

1. Bridging along the long edge (instead of the short edge) of a perimeter (pic. 1). [This is more inconsistent; sometimes Slic3r bridges well and sometimes it does not, depending on layer height. At the moment I print using the 0.35mm.]

2. Bridging or top-filling an area that is an issue for Slic3r (pic. 2) - I have since tried different settings (i.e. Detect thin walls: off/false) an so far no change to the pictured results.

Also attached are the STL and gcode files.

Hence, I would like to add these to Slic3r wish list.

Thank you.

+1 I agree with you. I would like to have an option to control the bridges. I've talked about this problem in one of my post concerning slic3r.
An estimated time and lenght of filament used would also be appreciated.

Re: Slic3r wish list

The best way to get a feature fixed in Slic3r is probably to post it here:
https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/issues

We at Prusa3D are working on Slic3r. We are maintaining our own fork of Slic3r, but we are also cooperating with the Slic3r guys, so it makes sense to collect the bug reports at a central place.

Use some other slicer, in this order from best to worst in regards to support quality.
1/2) Simplify3D / Kisslicer
3) Cura

I will definitely look into supports in Slic3r, but there are so many things to fix / improve.

So you want to limit lift Z to travel paths longer than what is set for the retraction?

While I am getting close to understand nearly all the lines of code of Slic3r, I believe there is a solution for you in Slic3r already:
Just change the output file name format field in Slic3r UI to contain any of the config keys you will normally find in the Slic3r ini file. In addition, you may use the following three special keys: print_preset filament_preset printer_preset, which correspond to the preset names you have selected in the combo boxes at the right of the platter:

This gives you quite a freedom to name your files automatically.

Vojtech

"Minimum travel after retraction" defines minimal distance extruder has to move to do retraction at all. If extruder has to move shorter distance, it won't retract. For example, if I set that to 10mm, every move to shorter distance than 10mm will be move *without* retraction. It is because such moves are so quick that extruder will not ooze regardless it retracts or not.

I want the same setting for Z-lift. I want to define minimal move distance needed to perform Z-lift. All moves shorter than that distance will *not* Z-lift. It will significantly speed up some parts of some prints with no impact on resulting quality.

Re: Slic3r wish list

Wishlist? Okay, three major things:

  • Undo / redo feature for all options and the 2D / 3D object placement

  • Better and parametric object placement (value based translation and rotation, grid-snapping)

  • Complete scene saving feature: Press save and have everything inside a snapshot, also the model object.
  • Can you implement this until next week? 😀

I missed this one, that's very cool 🙂

This setting would sound more logical to be in the printer settings area, I do not know if it's a lot of work to move it there. (It's a small "nice to have" wish, definitely not a "must have")

However It's still possible to find/replace with notepad++

    Hi,

it is very good to see the slicer of my choice getting some love.

A feature I already requested on the main tree was a function to reload an object. Especially in design phase you will probably slice, then change the model, then reslice in a continous loop. Always deleting and adding the object from the plate.

So a function to either manually reload a STL/whatever OR/AND automatically detect a change on disk and the reload would be very handy.

    Cheers,
    Carsten

    Hi,

I donät know it this is the correct way butI have two wishes that I would love to see more then customizable support and that is a "place surface on bed" function, and a way to control the seem position similar to simplify3d.

    Keep up the amazing work.

That's everybody's wish. I am rewriting the supports now, I am looking into the algorithmic possibilities and the UI possibilities.

That's everybody's wish. I am rewriting the supports now, I am looking into the algorithmic possibilities and the UI possibilities.

Just to clarify, customizable support is nice but that can be solved with Meshmixer for me its far more important to be able to "hide" the seem line wherever I want. So my wish is not the support but the "place surface on bed" function and the ability to choose where the seem line is located.

But really, really good job so far.
