Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

Hi!

I got a new issue with the latest 2.1.4 driver. I'm usually using USB controller for printing, now I can connect but nothing works. Not printing, not jog mode etc. Does anyone know what can be the cause?

I've tried with simplify 3d and it works fine. Reinstalled the Prusa driver (Slic3r etc) and same problem. Also 1.38.6 Slic3r on another computer seem to work fine.

Printer: MK2S
Firmware: 3.1.0 Latest
Slic3r 1.39.1. Latest

echo:echo: Last Updated: Nov 12 2017 11:07:38 | Author: (none, default config)
Compiled: Nov 12 2017
echo: Free Memory: 2158 PlannerBufferBytes: 1360
echo:Hardcoded Default Settings Loaded
echo:SD init fail

I have this exact same problem. If I re-install 2.1.3, it works fine again. Go back to 2.1.4, it stops working as per the post above.

Can somebody please help provide a fix for this.

Regards

Re: Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

I don't know if this is related or not and I am definitely a novice to software and 3d printing but.... when I originally installed Slic3r PE and even Pronterface I could not get it to work via USB. I tried reinstalling drivers/software, everything and I just couldn't get it to work at all. I eventually changed it from Stealth Mode back to Normal Mode and it recognized and connected via USB just fine and I was able to print again. Not sure if this will help, but it's easy enough to try. Good luck.

Re: Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

I can't find stealth mode on my printer firmware or software so cannot try your suggestion unfortuneately. I am running the bundled version, ie the Prusa edition.

I cannot get 2.1.4 to work via USB at all, even though I have enable USB comms in the preferences of Slic3R. The firmware update soft also fails frequently too. If I have 2.1.3 loaded, then 1.38.6 works just fine. I downloaded various versions of Slic3R from here:-

https://github.com/prusa3d/slic3r/releases

If I leave 2.1.3 loaded, then run Prusa x64 1.39.1 or 1.39.1 BETA, it will not work across USB. But if I run 1.39.1 ALPHA with 2.1.3 loaded, its works fine across USB, just as all previous versions have done. Something changed between the ALPHA and BETA to stop USB working!!!!

So to try to be clear, with the latter versions of Slic3R, the Printer connects find via the Printer TAB and also the Controller TAB. When you tell Slic3R to PRINT an object, nothing happens on the printer, not even the first "Choose Extruder" part.

This is very fustrating and zero response from Prusa themselves.

Having the same problem. The software says it is printing, but my printer does not respond.

Re: Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

Hi,

Have you any news about a fix or a workaround to make USB connexion works with the MK2S ?

I've tried 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.1.6 drivers and also test Slic3r 1.40 Beta. Only 2.1.3 works.
It's apparently a known bug in 3.1.0 MK2S firmware since November 2017.
Is there any chance to have a patch for this bug, or must buy 2.5 upgrade to have a new firmware ?

Re: Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

Hi jakub.d,

Thanks for advise us to test the lastest drivers.
I can confirm that the 2.1.7 drivers and apps works with USB connection.
I created a new printer profile with USB connection at 115200 speed.

The first time I tried to connect in the "Controller" tab, Slic3r can't connect to the printer.
After unplug and reconnect the USB cable to the computer, Slic3r was able to launch a print.

I don't know if it's linked to the new drivers, but the nozzle now crashes on the bed when the printer calibrate Z axe.
I will try to recalibrate all axes.

Thanks to the team an more particularly to the devs to have solved this issue 😉

Re: Problems with controlling via USB new drivers

It's all good after recalibrate all axes and a first layer calibration.
I don't know where the crashes come from.
I successfuly print a WonderWoman keychain without fail.

I'm happy to be able to now use all the Slic3r new features 😀
