Feature request: LCD backlight timeout or usb shutdown

I think it could be useful if the LCD backlight times out a specified time after the last input, or a command can be sent to toggle the backlight's status (eg via pronterface or octoprint sending M355 or M42, whichever is appropriate)?

Is this something which could be implemented in the firmware, or are the minirambo and/or the LCD panel not able to turn off the backlight?

You would have to extend the electronics with a transistor and a wire to the display. You would have to solder at the display. It is not a "firmware only" modification, but quite a hardware hack.

Ah, that's unfortunate. Guess I'll have to use a little cover plate instead. Thanks either way.

I don't know if this will help you at all:

(see his SOLVED at the end)

[...]I found that there is a little potentiometer on the back of the LCD. This controls the brightness of the text. Twiddling this, brought the LCD on.)

Maybe that will dim it enough for you?

I did find this trim pot just north of the SD card slot on the back. I adjusted it on my MK2 and found that it merely adjusts the contrast of the LEDs. It has no effect on the backlight for me at least.

Dimensions PNG

and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.
