Y-Axis Motor Random Jerking

Hello! Just finished building my MK2S.

The self-test passed OK.
Moving the Y-axis manually with motors off seems OK. I don't see any belt issues.

Calibration failed to find the second test point and the Y-Axis had a lot of vibration noise so I went into the menu, choose Move Axis -> Y Axis and manually jogged the Y-Axis back and forth.

Most of the time it works OK but every minute or so it gets into a state where the bed starts jerking backwards in very small motions with lots of noise as I slowly turn the knob. My first thought was skipping steps, but I looked closely at the motor shaft and pulley and gently put my finger on them and the motor shaft is jerking backwards and forwards. I keep turning the knob for some random length of time (one to 30 seconds) and it resolves itself.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks, Andy

Re: Y-Axis Motor Random Jerking

check the cable of the y-motor and the connector for any defects. might be that one of the wires is badly crimped at the connector or that one of the wires is damaged.

do you have any measuring equipment like a multimeter ? if so, check the two phases of the stepper motor directly at the connector. you should get a low resistance between 2 of the pins. make sure this resistance is still there when you move the cable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I swapped the X and Y cables on the RAMBo board and both axes were fine. I swapped them back and they are now fine, so I guess the connector was not fully seated in the board.
