Y-axis motor does not stop while homing, Rambo issue?
I am having an issue with my printer. my printer has been working perfectly for a couple months now. yesterday, I went to print out a part. it was a normal part and the procedure to start the print wasnt any different from any other print i have done. i prompted to print from sd card via the lcd screen and all was going well. once the bed heated up, the auto home initiated. the X axis homed about half way through and then the lcd screen went completely white. all functions of the printer stopped. i reset the printer and the lcd seemed to work well. so, i restarted the print and the process did not get very far. The Y axis carriage jammed into the end of the rail. i stopped the print and prompted the printer to auto home via the lcd screen and the y-axis carriage jammed into the end of the printer again and would not stop until I reset the printer, which led me to believe that there was something wrong with the endstop switch. i switched the x and y axis endstops around and found out that the endstop switch itself works. i removed all of the end stops and auto homed. in theory, all of the axes should have "homed" instantly when they are removed, since the printer thinks that all of the endstop buttons have been pressed. by homing instantly, i mean that the x,y,z axes stayed where they were and the printer thought that this location was (0,0,0). the x axis homed instantly (as expected since it is now in an open loop), but the y axis continued to move until it jams (i reset the printer before this happens each time to prevent damage). my Rambo board does not realize that there is no endstop, so it sends current to the y axis motor and does not stop while homing. i believe my Rambo board may be malfunctioning. i want to know if anyone else has had this issue and what i can do about it.

You could try re-flashing the firmware. You might have a hardware issue but it wouldn't cost you much time to try this first.

Thanks for the reply Jack. Yesterday I updated my firmware to the new quieter version and the issue still persists. are you suggesting that i take any other steps with regards to the firmware?

If you move with the Y axis by hand and go all the way back, the Y-carriage should trigger the switch and you should hear a little click. What happens sometimes, customers put it too far back and Y-carriage can't trigger it.
If the above possibility is not the cause, please unplug Y axis endstop from the RAMBo and test the triggering with plain multimeter. This way we can recognize if it is a RAMBo problem or Switch problem and know what replacement part we should send. Please contact my support team at [email protected]

My endstops work perfectly. i switched them around and pressed the respective switch while homing to check the functionality. i am still convinced that this is a rambo issue. as of this morning, i have encountered another issue. at the end of my last print, the x axis did not home to its origin. instead, i returned to my print with the extruder still hovering over the part. i assume that the x axis stepper stuttered in place for a period of time (of which i do not know) and eventually shut off. when i went to manually move the x axis(with printer shut off), the motor was extremely stiff and jumpy. i took off the belt and spun the motor by itself. the motor is almost locked up, and cannot turn like the others. the other motors turn fairly easily. so, i swapped the x and y axis motor connections on the board. when i went to move the "x axis" on the screen (which is now the y axis), the y axis motor stuttered. so, this leads me to think that this is still a rambo issue. my printer is now non-operational. my x axis motor is now faulty, which was caused by the issue with my rambo board. unfortunately, i must resort to getting a new rambo board and x axis stepper motor 🙁
