Y-axis alignment

Hello everyone. I bought a fully assembled MKII kit back in October and I've a few issues with it that I'm trying to resolve. It's always had the error message of XYZ calibration compromised. Front calibration points not reachable. Since this is a kit, I never did the original assembly and I'm not sure how to correct it. It looks like an issue with y axis calibration. But the details in the manual are kind of lacking on how to fix this. Does anyone have a nice link on how I can fix this issue? I appreciate any help. Thank you,

Re: Y-axis alignment

Hi Aaron,

Thank you so much for the help. Here are some photos of me going through the calibration. The results are variable and sometimes it flat out fails to find the front y points and sometimes it will say it is compromised.

Here is a picture of the failure message

This is me manually trying to move the sled up as far as I possibly can. You can see that reaches the edge of the sensor, but not quite to the middle of it.

This is an overhead view of the axes. I thought they looked pretty good. Again, I bought the kit preassembled, so I really have no idea what to adjust to correct this issue.

Thanks you again for the help!

Hmm. It looks very close to being able to reach that first row. Are you able to push the bed any further, or does it interfere with something? My initial guess is that the Y-stop sensor is triggering before the bed is all the way back. I know I've accidentally snapped the bracket holding that stop sensor, so I wonder if you've had the same. But of course, it might be a different issue. Good luck!

Re: Y-axis alignment

Thanks again for the reply. So I tried to move the print plate as far back as possible and I can just see that the center block underneath the build plate simply hits the y-axis limit switch. This prevents it from moving any further back. So things may actually be square. But for some reason the build plate just can't move back far enough without hitting the limit switch.

How can I correct this?

thanks a million

Re: Y-axis alignment

That's good, and nothing you need to correct. You'd notice if anything down there was broken, so you're not having the same problem I had. Give a look around the rest of the machine to make sure nothing has come loose or bent.

If there's nothing blocking the full range of motion of the carriage, then I'm guessing that in initial assembly that they set the frame nuts a little too close to the Y-axis motor (reference the build guide Step 2.11 and 4.15 for the MK2 like my own)
http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/2.+Y-axis+assembly/104?lang=en
http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/4.+Z-axis+assembly/106?lang=en

If this is actually wrong, you may have to move the vertical frame forward by 1-2mm. Be careful after you loosen those nuts, as then your base will be loose from the vertical frame. Try to make sure the two sides move the same amount so that your machine stays square. Calibration afterward is a must

Re: Y-axis alignment

Thanks a ton Garrett.

I think i've got it. I just need to loosen the 4 M10 nuts that attach the whole y-axis to the z-frame and then just scoot everything back a bit so that the PINDA probe would reach a little further forward. And then the hope is just to try and keep the z-axis square afterwards. Is that really all?

Re: Y-axis alignment

Hopefully that's it. (btw, it's coming from someone who assembled their own, so i'm not exactly an expert, just someone who has the same printer and enough knowledge to be dangerous)

Well, I'll take it Garrett. I appreciate the help. Technically, I see how that would fix the problem.

cheers!

Re: Y-axis alignment

Thanks for the help Garrett. Looks a I have a lot of new problems now. The printer now fails the Self Test and gives me "Loose pulley Motor Y". To fix the first problem I just loosened the M10 bolts and moved the print plate as far back as I could to make sure that the PINDA sensor would reach the sensors. Did I just move it too far? I hate to admit that I'm getting really frustrated with this printer. My Monoprice mini has never given me any issue.
