XY Shift On Long Print
I have had an issue now twice with the same print. I am getting an XY (or maybe just X) shift about a quarter way through a long print that is causing it to fail.
As you can see in the picture, I am trying to print a large scale version of the smaller skull (which printed very clean); however, that XY shift is causing it to fail. It happened at almost the exact same point on both attempts, about 1-2cm from the base of the teeth. I don't know if this is related to the FW update, but I know it is not related to the position along the Z axis. I ruled this out with a 10cm cylinder test print that printed fine without any shifts. I think there is something going on at that time point that is causing the failure. It seems to be at about the 9hr mark (this is an estimated 30hr print).
I am going to try again with the older (LOUD) FW but if anyone knows of a solution, I would REALLY appreciate it!
Re: XY Shift On Long Print
If you have first test version of the "silent firmware", try update to latest FW and you will be propably fine. (motor current value was slightly increased in second test firmware, which is now released as final).
Re: XY Shift On Long Print
Thanks for the reply. I actually did switch to the updated "silent" firmware after the first fail and then I still got the same shift.
I don't know if you or anyone else has tried a 10+ hr print, but if you have on the newest FW, maybe you could let me know how it goes?
Re: XY Shift On Long Print
Sorry, I cant test such long prints. My max is around 6hrs and its without problems for now.
Re: XY Shift On Long Print
Please check if your belt pulleys on X and Y axis cant rotate on their respective motor shafts, should be easy fix.
Re: XY Shift On Long Print
I checked the pulleys again and they are very tight. No room to rotate on the shaft, but just to be sure, I tightened even further.
I don't think that's the issue though because the shift happens at a certain time point. If it were the pulleys moving on the shaft, then I think it would happen randomly.
My print shifted again in almost the same spot for a third time, but this was when I tested the old firmware again.
Would any of you at Prusa3D be able to test the print if I gave you the gcode? I'm curious to see if this is a problem with only my printer or not.
UPDATE: Here's a picture of the last 3 prints (the red lines indicate the shift points):
